The Journey of Katherine Kaiba

Childhood Part 1

Hello readers, my name is Katherine Winterleaf. I am the daughter of the late King Jon and late Queen Emerald Winterleaf. I use the term "late" because both my parents died in the Great War against the Dark One. I was only a child at the time but I can still remember my father telling me to run and hide. But I will explain more that at a later time. Let us go back to a time that was full of love and peace under the rule of the aging Pharaoh Ahkenkaman. 

I grew up as a princess with the life of splendor like nothing was ever seen before or since the Great War. I was the only daughter of King Jon and Queen Emerald. I was taught to ride a horse, use sword and spear, shoot an arrow from a bow while riding a horse, to read, write, sing, dance and above all else rule. My father took me everywhere on progress through the kingdom, on hunting trips and the most important lesson that he taught me was to respect the people. I was adored by not only my people but by the Egyptians as well. 

From as far back as I could remember, men from far and wide would come to my father's court and offer their sons or grandsons as possible suitors for my hand in marriage. My father would listen to them as would I, being only a young child at the time I didn't know that an arranged marriage was. Like most children, I hated the idea of being forced into a marriage that didn't suite the kind of person I was. 

At the age of 6, there were signs of trouble at court. A young thief had broken into the castle and was raiding the crypts. One of the most heinous crimes someone could commit was disturbing the dead and not allowing their souls to move on to the afterlife. It was also at this time that Ahkenkaman had died and his son the new Pharaoh, Atem took his throne. While my father dealt with the petty thief, my mother took me to the Court of Atem to see how life was different from ours. One can only imagine the splendor and wonder of the palace.
