It all started on a rainy day in early June. Me, my brother and my sister were outside jumping on our backyard trampoline. It was lightly raining, but we liked it. My little sister, Katie, was shouting," Yay! Wet party!". It was adorable! I saw lightning flash in the distance, but eleven seconds passed before I heard thunder, so I thought we were fine. However, my grandmother didn't. She opened the door and told us to come in, but we were having too much fun to go inside. She sighed and went inside, muttering something. "How do you know lightning won't hit us?"Asked my brother, Marc. " because the storm is still eleven miles away," I replied. "How do you know that?!?!?" Said Katie." You may not understand this, but light travels faster than sound, and the lightning is light and "thunder is sound, right?" "Umm yes, "she said. I continued," so if thunder and lightning happens at the same time, and we see the lightning first, before we hear the thunder, so we must be far away enough from the storm that we don't notice them at the same time. The number of seconds between thunder and lightning is the number of miles away it is." "Oh,ok," they replied simultaneously. We started jumping again, but time sped by and we forgot to check how far away the storm was. Before I knew it, lightning was right above us, spiraling down towards me. Then, I blacked out and there was nothing.
I woke up to see a beautiful, clear sky. I sat up and said, " where am I?" I tried to stand up, but I was too dizzy and I fell right back down. I waited a few minutes, then I was able to stand. I suddenly heard someone calling my name. I followed the sound, and I found Katie standing on a beach by Marc. I was so relieved that it wasn't just me here! " where are we? Are we dead?" Said Katie. " Well, it doesn't feel like it, but there is definitely something weird about this situation!" Marc replied. I started to look around the area while they were chatting. We seemed to be on a deserted island. A very beautiful deserted island! There were the beaches, surrounded by turquoise water, with white sand, and a tall forest loomed to the left. I realized that there was also a small mountain at the edge of the forest. If only I could fly up like a bird and see this beautiful place. It's always been my dream to fly up above, but I know that it's not that possible. I closed my eyes and imagined myself flying. Suddenly, I couldn't feel the ground anymore. I opened my eyes and I appeared to be floating off the ground. I couldn't believe my eyes! I willed myself to go higher, and I did. I circled the few wisps of clouds. This is as amazing as I dreamed it would be. I flew over my siblings and I heard them yelling my name. I landed next to them and told them about my experience. "Whoa", said Katie. They wanted to figure out if they had superpowers, too. "Maybe super strength?" Said Marc. He tried to uproot a tree and failed." Super speed?" He tried to run super fast to tag Katie, but he ran like he always does. However, he still tagged her. He ran away and crouched behind a bush so she couldn't tag him back. " oh, it's on!" She exclaimed. She ran to the bush, but nothing was there. "Where is he," she curiously asked me. " uh, are you blind? He's right there!" " no he's not!" She whined. I went over there and Katie was right. I didn't see him. "Where are you Marc, this isn't funny" I shouted. "Right here," he said. He appeared behind the bush, startling me." I think we figured out your power!" I told him."Oh yeah, I can be invisible!" He chanted repeatedly. I guess he liked his power. Now, we just had to figure out Katie's.
I wanna know, I wanna know what mine is!" Katie said. "You'll know soon, just be patient," I replied."but I don't want to be patient!" She screamed in frustration. Suddenly , bursts of fire shot from her hands. Everything around her turned into a bright inferno. After a few seconds, She calmed down and it stopped. "Whoa, now I may be scared of you," mark told her with a shaking voice. I guess it makes sense that Katie has fire power, being that she has a very fiery personality. After that, we noticed that it was starting to get dark outside."Thats strange, it feels like we just got here," I said. We all clustered together on the beach. Even though it was warm and sunny earlier, it was starting to get very cold. We gathered some driftwood that was dry and Katie lit a fire. We were sitting in silence when Marc spoke up. "In all my books, when people get superpowers, they need to learn how to control them, but we just got them, no problems. Don't you think that's weird?" "Yes, this situation definitely isn't normal at all, but I'm glad you two are here with me," I told them. We told stories for a while by the warm fire. We were so tired, before long, we were all asleep with out even thinking of dinner.
