Stretching your back out as you walked down the hill with your group of friends, discussing the festival and laughing, the group of you walking away from the school all seeming happy to finally get out of school after the long day.
"Thank fucking god we're out of there." You yawned as you spoke and looked over at the boys, all of them but Mahiru seeming generally stressed and drained. Biting on your thumbnail for a second before being snapped out of your thoughts by Sakuya who picked you up and hugged you. "Why didn't you sign up for anything for the festival?!"
You tried to push off the male's arms so that you could try to get away. "I did!" Laughing a little bit as you were placed down and the green haired male pretended to be hurt. "I'm helping you out with the maid cafe anyways!" You smiled.
You'd known all the boys since middle school, transferring from your other one around your second year. It was a little difficult for you to make friends anyways, you weren't introverted or anything, just very awkward when it came to striking up conversations. But Mahiru was the first to greet you, almost as soon as you got to the school. Sakuya, Ryusei and Koyuki followed suit, in that order.
"Does that mean we'll get to see you in a maid uniform?" Your blonde haired friend asked as you rolled your eyes. "Depends on if Mahiru has the time to make one." Shoving your hands in your jacket pockets and looking towards Mahiru hoping he'd be like 'Oh well I already have to bake and make a maid costume for Sakuya.'
But no. He had to just ruin that.
"I'll probably have the time to do it along with the baking, I do have to make more costumes. It shouldn't be an issue." You felt your cheeks flush as the rest of the boys laughed. "C....Come on, Mahiru, I was just kidding-" You laughed a bit nervously, Sakuya cackling behind you. "Guess you get to join me in wearing a maid uniform, huh!" Wrapping an arm around your neck, once more trying to get out of his grasp before Mahiru began to speak again.
"Well I've got to head into town to get some supplies for the festival, I should get going back to my place beforehand." He said as he started to move a little quicker, but he was quickly stopped by Sakuya's voice. "Be careful! Lately in this area... there have been rumors of vampire attacks!" His voice began to carry a more serious tone as he let go of your neck."Huh?" The rest of you said, half of you confused, the other half wondering where on earth this was going.
"I'm not joking! There have been random attacks. The victims have teeth marks on their necks and arms... and all their blood was drained! There have already been dozens of victims... Psych! I just made up everything I said up until now! Ow!-" He was quickly cut off by Mahiru beating him over the head with his fist, rolling his eyes at the actions of his best friends.
"Well, Sakuya's idiocy aside, I do need to get home and finish my work before the festival begins. I hope y'all have a good night, maybe I'll see you in town later." Waving your friends off, you began the long trek back to your house. But while on your walk, you'd noticed a bunch of kids surrounding... something. Honestly you couldn't see it from here, but what you did notice was a few of them poking whatever it was with sticks, and one child throwing rocks at it. Walking up behind them, you saw what appeared to be a little hedgehog. "C'mon you guys, leave the poor thing alone, you should head back to your parents."
At the sight of someone older, the kids scattered like mice. Which left you and the little hedgehog alone. Reaching down to pick it up, mostly to check if it was alive, as soon as you placed your hands near its spikes, they shot straight into your hands. Wincing at how quickly the blood was coming out of your hands. It would be okay though. Petting down the hedgehog's spikes, you tried to show it that you weren't here to hurt it, it seemed to calm down a bit. That was good. Holding it close to your chest, you began to run home, hoping that the little thing would survive the trek.
When you got home, you look around your house, not really expecting anyone to be home because your parents still should have been at work, but you secretly hoped they were. Taking your shoes off and setting your bag down before walking to the bathroom and setting the hedgehog on the counter, almost instantly noticing how most of his wounds were completely gone... strange... maybe they weren't there to begin with.
But it got a little weirder when you went to grab a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol, just for the hedgehog's wounds to all be gone... huh. Whatever. Made your life way easier. Putting the alcohol away, you thought to yourself for a moment. Were you even going to keep this thing? It wouldn't be easy to take care of a pet and go to school... How do you even care for a hedgehog? You'd figure it out, you didn't wanna move this little guy through households too much. He seemed to like it here.
"Well then, wanna go through some names with me? See which ones you like?" He seemed to perk up at your question, but he was just listening to what random words were coming out of your mouth.
"Hm, how do we feel about Hyde?"In response, he began to jump up and down a little.
"Guess you like it, Hyde it is then, c'mon. Lemme get something that will fit around those spikes of yours." Walking to your room and rummaging around your drawers for a bit, you picked up an old, blank dog tag your dad gave you for something... you couldn't quite remember what for. Whatever. Made a good collar for this spikey guy. Grabbing a pocket knife from your nightstand drawer, you began to engrave his name into the dog tag.
All going smoothly until you got to the 'E' and sliced your thumb clean open with the knife when it slipped on the bottom half. "Shit, I'll be right back. Here ya go." Slipping his dog tag over his spikes before running to the bathroom, cleaning your thumb off in the sink before looking for a band-aid under the cabinet.
Suddenly stopping when you heard footsteps approaching the bathroom. From your room. Looking up over the cabinet, you saw a very tall man. Orange hair with the tips adorned with black, red eyes.. Honestly after that you stopped paying attention because there was some random guy in your fucking house.
Scrambling back, your back pressing against the tub, you were definitely freaking out. "A band-aid won't be necessary." What on earth did he mean by that. "Oh, cat got your tongue?" Noticing you weren't talking he stepped closer to you. "Sooo that little hedgehog of yours, whatcha name him?"
"H..Hyde? Why? Is he yours or something-" Right after you finished your sentence, a chain connected from a shackle on your hand, to a chain around his neck.
You were completely speechless. What was happening. You couldn't wrap your head around any of this. You felt like you were going to pass out.The man kneeled down in front of you, his legs pressing both of yours together before he pulled your hand up with his own and licked the blood off your thumb. Still completely baffled as to what was happening. You nearly lost your mind as the shackle and chain came back, this time, a lock forming around the chain on his neck.
"Well, It's a pleasure to meet you, my name's Hyde. Although I'm sure you knew that since you named me."You... named him? He couldn't be the hedgehog... could he?
"I didn't catch your name though, what is it?" He asked as he leaned right over your head, his face hovering above yours."[N...Name]."
