More POV changes. Sorry guys.
I stood on wobbly legs as I took another look at him. He was gasping for air. It was hilarious and naturally I started laughing.
He glared me. It just made me laugh harder.
"I don't know why you held your breath but Kudos to you for holding it for that long."
His eyes roamed up and down my body. I stopped laughing. I normally would complain about a guy eyeing me up and down, but his gaze made me feel self conscious. Usually, when guys looked, I'd just flip the bird and watch them scowl and call me names. But with him, I felt as if he was looking for something.
"Kudos? What language are you speaking? And I held my breath because I didn't want to drown."
I scrunched my face. I mean, I wasn't the most up to date with the ever changing language that is English but everyone knew what kudos means right? And his voice! It was deep and rough and his weird accent sent shivers right through me.
"Why? Didn't you know you could breathe in the Water Gate?" I asked confused and amused. I thought all the people from Alaktasia would know that.
His eyes widened. "You knew
I could breath in there and you didn't say anything?!"I held my hands up in surrender. "I thought everyone knew"
He shook his head. "Damned Mages" he grumbled under his breath but his eyes stayed on me.
I raised an eyebrow at him and asked the first thing came to my head.
"Who are you?"
He looked at me with a slight look of hurt in his eyes. "You don't remember who i am?"
I shook my head. "To be honest, I don't know much of who I am...or was"
He had a haunted look that flashed by in an instant and was gone before I could process it.
"I'm nobody." he said seriously.
I glared at him hard. anyone with eyes could see that that was a lie. "Then why do I have dreams of you? Obviously dreams are just the manifestation of thoughts and memories. So who are you to me? I mean the past me?"
His eyes widened in response. "what kind of dreams?"
I froze like a deer caught in headlights.
Great he probably thinks I'm a weirdo for having dreams of him. I blushed slightly at this thought.
"Nothing. Never mind. Forget I said anything."
He narrowed his eyes and answered my first question. "My name is Eric and I was your personal guard during the war."
It was my turn to narrow my eyes. In my dreams, especially during fights, he was always fighting along side me and he may have been protecting me but I couldn't be too sure. The logical part of my brain screamed for me to run. Almost as if he was the predator I should avoid at all cost. But the dominant part of me found comfort in his presence. He was warm and inviting. And the way he used to cry out for me in my dreams told me that he cared.
I nodded my head and took a look around me. It was the dead of night and we were back at my house. The water gate deposited us beside the pool and dried us. I turn away from him and make my way to the back door.
