The Tardis wasn't wanting to cooperate with The Doctor, he was trying to get to the 1800's in London, wanting to see the sites and enjoy the "olden days" there. He had heard it had been wonderful then.
The Tardis jerked him around and landed him somewhere very dark. He cautiously exited the Tardis and looked around him. He was in the back of a building, surrounded by tall shelves, all stacked with books. He got out and looked around, the books had been recently cleaned and he could tell they were well kept on the mahogany shelves. The whole building inside was a beautiful dark brown/red combination.
The Doctor started going up and down the isles, not making a sound. He suddenly heard rustling and looked over, seeing a girl in her young twenties sitting at a desk, her head in a textbook. He ducked down before she could see him, but he never quit looking at her. "Why in the world is she here so late?" He asked himself, seeing it very dark outside, it had to be at least midnight there.
All of a sudden he heard a familiar noise behind him, coming closer and closer. "Exterminate! Exterminate!"
The Doctor jumped up, seeing a Dalek coming towards the young lady, he ran out from behind the shelves, grabbed her arm and simply said, "Run."
The girl, Jessica, looked at the strange man in a momentary state of shock. She didn't even have time to ask him why before he pulled her out of her chair and took off.
"Who are you? Why are we running? What are we running from?"
The Doctor simply looked at her then to the Dalek. "That." He said. He pulled her out the front door just as she got a glimpse of the thing that was chasing them. He slammed the door shut, let go of her wrist and took out a screwdriver, messing around with the doorknob. He totally ignored the girl for a few seconds before turning around. "There, that should hold them for a few."
He looked her up and down, she was in a beautiful white lace dress, it was very classy. She didn't wear much make up, but it suited her that way best, he thought. He shook her out of his mind. "Now, I want you to run along...and don't come back til morning, I promise it'll all be dealt with and you can go back to your life...whatever that is." He turned around and reopened the door using his screwdriver again. He figured she had already run off so he could deal with his little problem.
Jessica crossed her arms, and looked longingly at that door, she didn't want to go home, but she had really nothing to do, and all her friends had made plans. She looked back at the man. "I can't leave, all my belongings are in there. And besides I can't leave this library unattended, not only will I lose credit towards my class but I could lose my internship. You really don't understand how much this library means to me, my life revolves around this building." Jessica sighed looking down at the ground.
The odd man looked to the door, seeing a sign that said "Normal Business Hours 6 a.m. to 12 a.m." he sighed and looked back at her. "By what I can tell you should be locking up for the night any way. Your belongings won't move, you'll see them again in the morning." He had a sincere yet frightful look on his face. "I promise if you go home right now youl'l never see me again. That's my job...keeping you humans safe. Now run along." As he said the last line he went in the door quickly closing and locking behind him. He used his screwdriver just in case she had a key on her.
Jessica gave an exasperated sigh. Maybe he was right though. Jessica was never one to stay like this, she always knew when she wasn't needed, which was most of the time. Whatever this man was dealing with, she had no place to interfere. She looked up at the man and gave a small smile.
"You're right. I should get going, I guess...thank you for getting me out of there when you did." Jessica started to walk away when she heard a light humming noise and when she turned back to see what it was, a blue iridescent laser beam sawing its way through the nearly impenetrable door. Jessica knew she should run, but yet, she could not make herself move.
