I heard the awful blaring of my alarm. It started me awake and I was forced to start my day. If I could I would probably hit the snooze button until I had to leave the house. I groggily turned off the alarm and prepared to start my day. I hopped in the shower, got dressed and made my way downstairs. My sister Mukuro usually woke up an hour before I did, giving her time to shower and do her thing. She'd cook breakfast, then after making sure we were ready she'd drop me off at work. It never really clicked in my head that she was older than I was. It kinda sucked how I had to live with her. She isn't a bad dude, she's rarely even annoying. Neither of us went to college, and we both have shitty wages, so having me there with her was a blessing in her eyes. It was more of an inconvenience in my opinion. She didn't like it when I drank, and trust me, I'm a raging alcoholic.
"Good morning Junko, how'd you sleep?" She asked.
"Oh, you know, ok." I shrugged. I didn't normally mentally start waking up until later in the morning.
"Ok, well guess what I found in the fridge." Her voice changed tones, something was troubling her. Many ideas flew through my head, I had a lot of secrets I kept from her.
"What'd you find?"
She tossed a dead squirrel that I had in a ziplock bag on the table, "The fuck is this?! Seriously?! This is where we keep our food! We don't need roadkill in here!" It was rare to see her so worked up, but to someone who didn't know her they probably would have assumed she was just a little annoyed. I knew though, she was furious.
I sighed in relief, she hadn't found my alcohol stash yet.
"Anything to say for yourself?" She asked with as much authority in her voice as she could muster, which wasn't much but at least she was trying, "Our fridge is no home for dead things! Bury it at least!"
"Sorry I guess. Didn't know it bothered you."
"This is disgusting!"
"I'll stop, don't need to get your panties in a twist." She rolled her eyes and took the squirrel outside
and took it to the dumpster. She came back, washed her hands thoroughly, then sat down to eat his breakfast.
She was really nice, very forgiving. She didn't mention the squirrel after that, where as any normal person would probably not want me living with them anymore. She however ate her food in peace, asking me about my sleep and work. I questioned just how sane she was, but I'm sure he wouldn't have reacted that way if I was anyone else. Mukuro was planning on moving out soon though to live alone, but she promised to stay with me until I could find a roommate.
After breakfast, she checked the time, "We still have half an hour 'till we have to get going." She got up, took my plate and washed our dishes. I got up and walked to our living room. I fed our cat, but she didn't come running up to her food dish as she usually would. I knew why, but I had to let it appear to Mukuro that he ran away as opposed to what actually happened.
"Muku, do you know where Olive is? She didn't come running to her food like she normally does."
"She's a fat cat, so I'm sure she's just a little late. Give her time."
I found it odd how she was so chill about our cat being gone. They were extremely close, it was odd just seeing them apart.
"Did you sleep with her last night?"
She looked up, "I thought you did, perhaps she's found a way outside again." She shrugged. She made his way by my side, "Do you think something happened to him?"
"I don't know. I'm sure she'll turn up eventually." Lying to her was second nature. I lied a lot, and was good at it, but she was just too easy.
She dropped me off at work. I made my way to the clock-in machine. I know there's a name for it, but I honestly couldn't care less.
