Truth or Dare

JJ POV

"Jennifer, truth or dare?" Spence asked, trying to hide the desperation in his voice.

I swallow, Spence only calls me Jennifer if something is serious. I decide to play as I had done with the case yesterday. "Truth."

"Did you mean it?"

Fuck. "Um......" I ponder in shock despite having predicted something like this.

Did I love Spencer? Well, of course I did, he was my 'Spence', my best friend, whom I should and would have asked out for a second date, had I not stupidly got myself knocked up by Will.

Henry was both a blessing and a curse.

A curse, because it tied me to Will forever. I mean, Will's a great guy, but a guy who needs a girl who doesn't come home for weeks then turns up in the middle of the night from a case, rather one with a simple 9 to 5 job.

A blessing because.... Henry. He's the sweetest child in the world, and I love him and Michael to bits, even though I'm not always around. Spence is his godfather, and whilst we were distant during my pregnancy, Henry brought us closer together.

I love Spence, but— I'm married.

I never thought that a love triangle cliche would actually enter my life, but it has.

Emily interrupts us as I ponder sadly.

"It's time to cut the cake." She announces happily.

Shit.

Reid POV

JJ's face sinks when Emily finishes.

"We'll be right over." I decide, and she thankfully walks off, making the moment a little less awkward.

"I-um...." JJ stutters, clearly trying to decide, yet I can't decipher whether she can't decide: because she actually loves me, or because she doesn't want to make me sad.

But then suddenly she tips her head in shame.

Oh my god.

She might actually have told the truth.

Shut up Spencer, she might just be controlling her micro-expressions like she did at the hospital when Prentiss wasn't actually dead.

She's married, after all.

In the most impromptu wedding ceremony you've ever witnessed. She told you it seemed kinda fast.

"It's ok, it's gonna be ok." I say, both comforting her and my frantic mind, as I take her hand, hoping it doesn't seem to eager, and walk slowly with her to the table, carefully letting go just before Will could notice.

JJ POV

Why am I so stupid.

I should've told him.

I should just tell him. He's very tipsy, so he might not even remember. But he'll probably think I'm lying, since I'm slightly tipsy too.

The joys of champagne.

I roughly shake his arm to get his attention.

"JJ. Imma go do a speech, you?" He slurred. Gods, he's way too cute when he's drunk.

"I'm ok, but can I talk to you afterwards?" I ask, my words slowly becoming discernibly incoherent.

"Sure."

"Great, see you in a bit."

I don't deserve a guy like him.

Anyway, it would be weird, even if Will and I split up, if we suddenly got together. Neither of us are the type to cheat on our partners, but that doesn't mean there won't be - a lot of - rumours.

And I'm now rambling.

Just like Spence.

"So what was it you wanted to talk about, JJ?" Spence asks as he stumbles over after his drunken speech.

"Oh, it's nothing." I say tentatively, it's probably not the best time.

"Didn't seem like nothing."

"Shit."

"What?"

"Fine, come with me." I finish, and drag him over to that drinks table where we first had our conversation.

"JJ, why? What's going on?" He asks.

"I meant it. What I said on that case. I meant every word though, because I have no damn clue what to do. And I hate that. Just know that... Spence, I love you." I whisper so only he can hear me.

He slowly closes the distance between us, and I'm worried for a split second that he's going to kiss me, in front of everyone, but he thankfully just hugs me close, and murmurs into my hair, "Well I guess we're fucked then."

I let out a laugh.

"Yeah, we most definitely are." I whisper.
