"What was that?" I asked panicked. "I don't know." I looked outside but I didn't see anything but the road.
Stiles started to drive again and his phone rang. He answered it quickly. "Hello." I couldn't hear the person on the other end but I don't want to ease drop...okay, maybe I do but it isn't polite. "Yes, I'm aware of that. I'm taking Amber home..." There was a short pause. "Allison's twin sister." He looked over at me and then back at the road. "It's a long story. Look, I have to go. We'll talk about this later." He hit the end button and sat his phone in the side of his door.
"You could drop me off right here." I suggested seeing my favorite getaway spot in the woods. He shook his head. "I have to take you home." I let out a deep breath and watched outside of the window.
I pulled my phone out my pocket and I saw that I had no missed calls or even one new message. They must have not even noticed I left. I shoved the phone back in my pocket and looked forward at the road. The rest of the ride was quite until we pulled up into my driveway. "Thanks for driving me." I mumbled as I opened up the door. "Your welcome. I guess I'll see you around." I didn't answer. I just walked to the door and waved as he pulled away.
I waited until he got out of the driveway and walked away from the door. I don't feel like going home just yet. As soon as I walked around to the side of the house I bumped into Gerard. "Hello Amber. Where do you think your going?" I swallowed. "Where were you? You weren't at the hospital." He smiled. "Nowhere you need to concern yourself with." I backed away. I knew he wouldn't give me ay information, no one does. "I'm tired. I'm going to bed." I lied as I walked back around to the front door.
I walked inside and found my dad sitting at the kitchen table on the phone with someone. I tried to stay still and listen. "No, I don't think we have to do anything about that now. He isn't killing anyone." I heard the floor creak as I tried to move closer. My dad stopped talking and looked up at me. "I'll have to call you back." He said ending the conversation. "Hello Amber. I noticed you left the hospital." "You didn't call." I said walking further into the kitchen. "I didn't have to. I knew you would come home." What a great father you are, I thought sarcastically.
Allison walked into the kitchen. "Hey dad, any news?" My dad cleared his throat and Allison looked up at me. "We'll talk about it later." She said walking out of the kitchen. I frowned and looked at my dad. "What is everyone not telling me? Your all keeping something from me. You always have to talk in secret and Allison doesn't even talk to me anymore." He didn't change his expression. "I don't know what your talking about." I groaned loudly and walked out of the kitchen.
I wanted nothing more than to leave and find my secret place in the woods but Gerard already caught me once, I don't need to get caught again. I stomped up the stairs and slammed the door to my room. I started to cry as soon as the door shut.
I heard the sound of a knock on my door and wiped the tears away. "Come in." Gerard walked in. He had a note in his hands. I had forgotten all about the note that my mom left for me. "I believe this is for you." He handed me the note and I took it quickly. I didn't open it. I just stared at him. "I'll leave you to it." He said walking out of the room and shutting the door.
I opened the note carefully and saw nothing but a few sentences. I read them aloud.
"Dear Amber, I love you very much. I'm sorry you have to go through this but I can't stay with you any longer. Just remember to stay strong. I love you, mom."
I crumbled the note almost immediately and threw it into the trash can. Why did she have to end her life? I have no one but I lived in the comfort of knowing that at least she was there if I needed her. She didn't even give me a paragraph to explain why she decided to kill herself. Even she didn't want me to know anything. The numbness finally subsided as I fought off the urge to cry.
