Prim
A girl of twelve years, young and caring,
Chosen for the games for the skilled and daring.
No one expected her name that day,
The dreaded thought of her going away.
Who would choose such a young girl’s life to go to waste in just one night?
Her brave older sister of much higher strengths,
Offered to take Prim’s place in the games.
How their life was already terribly sad,
Now Prim’s sister could pass just like her dad.
The family had almost no money,
Struggling to survive with Prim’s sister hunting.
Willing to help feed three mouths plus the cat,
Prim couldn’t help her sister with that.
Prim’s old goat could not do much,
But the family could sell milk with such.
You think Prim had no skill at all to speak,
But she has a special gift for healing the weak.
Such a young and special girl,
We are lucky to still have her in our world.
