I wake up to my phone blaring in my ears. I groan and turn over but as soon as I do my hand hits Reece in the face.
"Ow." He says.
"I'm sorry." I say sheepishly.
"Who was calling?" He questions. About the time he asks, my phone starts ringing again. As if on time. I grab my phone and look at the caller I.D. She never calls my phone anymore. Not ever since Kyle got put behind bars the first time.
"It's my mom." I say. I slide my finger across the phone then put my phone on speaker.
"Where are you?" My mother's voice booms through the phone so loud that I had to turn the phone down a little.
"I am with Reece in the mountains." I answer. She already knew that. Why is she calling and asking?
"Why are you there?" She questions.
"Reece wanted to bring me here. Dad said it was fine. We will only be here for a week." I say to her.
"No, he may be there for a week but you are going to be on your way home right now." She shouts.
"But-" She cuts me off.
"But nothing! Get home now." She says. I go to say something else but the line goes dead. I switch off my phone then stare at it for a second.
I look over at Reece with a puzzled look on my face. But I notice he is also confused. "I guess we need to get ready and leave. I'll book a flight." He says.
"I'm sorry. I had no idea she was going to do that as soon as we got here." I say apologetically. He cups his hands on my face gently then starts caressing it.
"It's okay. We can do this again another time." He says, he then kisses my forehead then gets out of the bed.
I get up also and grab some clothes then I go to the bathroom to get a shower.
I turn the water on then I get undressed and get in. She knew I was here with him. Why did she do that? Actually, a good question is why is she being the way she is being lately? I don't understand.
She didn't say anything besides go when I was talking with dad about this trip. She knew. She was sitting there and kept saying go!
I wash all the soap off of me then I get out and I dry my hair and body with the towel I grabbed. I then grab the blow dryer and dry my hair completely then I finish getting dressed.
As soon as I walk out of the bathroom, mine and Reece's bags aren't on the floor anymore and the cabin smells like food. It smells amazing. Is it pancakes? That's what it smells like. I haven't had pancakes in a while.
I take a few steps and reach the doorway then I walk closer to the aroma and once I reach the kitchen, I see Reece is sitting at the island with a plate of pancakes in front of him and another in front of another stool.
"You cooked?" I ask.
"Yeah, I figured it would be good to eat first thing before we leave." He says.
"Again, I am so sorry. Especially seeing as we are leaving at nine in the morning." I say. I sit down then I dig into my food.
"It's alright. I kind of expected that. I do have to agree with you, your mom is acting pretty weird." He says. I nod my head at him.
At least someone see's it! I thought I was the only one. No one else has mentioned the way she acts.
"Thank you." I say.
"For what?" He asks.
"For all of this. It was a kind gesture. Even though we only got to be here one night, I still had a lot of fun." I say.
Last night after we ate, we laid across the bed and watched friends for awhile. Then we both got a sweet tooth so we rummaged through the snacks we got at the store and I got us out a bunch if it.
We finish our breakfast then we head to the airport. Again, it didn't take us long to get through airport security and on the plane then it take off.
I laid my head on Reece's chest then we both fell fast asleep. I mean, we stayed up pretty late and got woke up rudely.
I don't know how long it took before I felt Reece shaking me awake telling me we landed.
We stepped off the plane and found his truck then headed back home. At least the fun was exciting while it lasted.
We reached my house then I notice Jai's and dad's cars weren't in the driveway. But I did notice mom's was.
I step out and Reece waits for me to open the door then he pulls off. "Syana, is that you?" I hear from the kitchen.
"Yes Mom, it is." I say and walk to her.
When I get in there, her back is facing me but upon hearing my footsteps she turns around and she has an angry look on her face.
"Who do you think you are?! Coming and going as you please?" She yells.
"I was told I could go." I say.
"Well, you didn't ask again before you left." She says.
"I didn't think I had to." I say.
She walks over to me then scoffs. "Didn't think you had to?" You are not an adult. You don't make your choices!" She yells, then suddenly my face is pushed hard to the side with an ache in my cheek. She slapped me!
"What was that for?" I ask turning my head back to her. She then draws back and punches me right in my eye.
"You are no daughter of mine." She says then punches me again. I shriek in pain, but the beating isn't over yet. She kicks my leg and it causes me to fall to the floor so she continues to kick me in my side. Tears start pouring out of my eyes at a constant speed.
Then she reaches down and grabs a head full of my hair and yanks it back to make me look at her. I yell again so it makes her punch my face again.
"You ever tell anyone, I will make you regret not trying to kill yourself again the minute you was out of that mental asylum, you pathetic little brat." She spits. Like, literally, her saliva is all over my face now. I gulp then I nod my head then she pulls my hair down causing my head to fling back onto the ground.
What have I done to deserve this treatment from my own mom? How can she be that cruel to her own child?
