℘rologue
My heavy boots stomp against the white marble tiles of the headquarters building. Pass-buyers turn their heads to look at me, before whispering quietly to each other. But I couldn't care less. I just come back from a mission, obvious cuts and bruises up my arm, through my numerous tattoos. My clothes are smoke-stained, and the smell of blood still lingers under my nose.
I hold my black rifle tighter towards my torso as I push through a set of doors, on my way to the main office. "Harry!" I hear a male voice shout from behind me. I roll my eyes as I turn around to be faced by a secretary, who seems way too elated to see me. He holds two coffees in his hands, the smell of hot coffee beans masking the smell of blood. "You made it back!" He eyes me up and down, his eyes widening at the sight of my state. "Alive, I might add."
He shoves one of the cups of coffee towards me, which I slowly take from his grasp. "Of course I did, Liam. What makes you think that I wouldn't have?" I bring the hot coffee up to my lips and begin walking. I can hear Liam's footsteps trying to catch up to me.
"Oh, nothing, its just that those cuts don't look very good right now. Do you need to get that stitched up?" He asks me, pointing to the deep cut engraved into my arm. I look down on it as if it was nothing.
"Maybe later, if I have time." Finally, I reach the big, glass door that had the words 'L.Tomlinson' written carefully in white paint. Through the door, I can see the boss sitting with his legs up on the desk and a cigarette in his mouth.
I knock on the glass, and his attention turns to me. He sits up straight and removes his cigarette, dropping it into the ashtray at the end of the desk. "Ah, Styles. Come in!" I pull the doorknob, turning to Liam who looks like a lost puppy.
"You go get me an appointment with the nurse, I'll be there in a few minutes." I order as Liam nods and turns around, walking away as fast as he can.
"Be careful not to get blood on my newly polished floors." Louis says, regarding my gunshot wound that I nearly forgot was there. "So, how did it go?" Louis asks, leaning forward onto his elbows.
"Not very well- I got caught before I had the chance to even see where the money is at." I reply, sitting on the chair across from him.
"I can see that," He says, gesturing to my body. "Is there anything you saw?" He asks, obviously displeased with the fact that I had failed the mission once again.
I think for a moment, tracing back my memories to when I was looking over the building. That's when I remember. The flash of long, blonde hair and an innocent looking face that wore a confused look when she had seen all the people guarding the outside of her home.
"A girl," I finally reply after a while of silence. Louis' eyes widen as he slowly sits back up straight.
"Do you know who she is?" He asks me. I shake my head in reply.
"No idea. She could be anyone. But I think she lives there."
Louis suddenly looks very pleased. He stands up and walks over to the end of the room, staring out through the glass pane at the tall buildings and lack of trees. "Do you know what this means?" He asks after a while, turning around to face me with his hands behind his back.
I think for a moment, but I clearly know what he means. It is quiet obvious. "I want you to find that girl."
"And what do I do with her?" I ask, raising my eyebrow.
"You have to keep her hostage until Seth hands over the money." I shake my head at him.
"No way, sorry but I don't have time to babysit some girl for who knows how long."
Louis glares at me, and I immediately regret my words. He has the power to get rid of me, and no matter how much of friends we were, he would do it in a heart beat. Louis took his job very seriously, just as much as I did.
"Fine," I sigh in frustration. Louis looks at me with yet again, a pleased look on his face.
"Do not let her out of your sight. Wherever you go, she goes. And whatever you do, do not fall in love with her."
I nearly laugh. "Fall in love with her? As if," I scoff. He's got to be joking.
The look on Louis' face shows how serious he is. He raises his eyebrow at me. "Well, you haven't been interested in anyone after Maria's death-"
My voice is deep and it is obvious anger is about to burst out of me. "Don't talk about her." I mumble, cutting him off. Louis puts his hands up defensively.
"Okay, okay. Anyway, go find that girl, hold her hostage until Seth hands over the money." He repeats, even though I heard him loud and clear the first time he said it.
