Ambition - Official Story (WIP)

Intro - Chapter 1.

Nikki. That was all that she'd been called for most of her life.

     She blinked firmly, tearing herself away from her thoughts. She pieced together her objective, remembering what she was doing.
     She quickly folded the outfits laid out on her bed and placed them neatly into a small bag. Her cat ears flicked as the doorknob rattled a warning before the door swung open. She looked up, already knowing who it was.

     A tall man, with brown hair and green eyes, stood before her. He wore a lab coat that barely reached his knees. His face was creased with worry lines, but softened to her. He spoke kindly, but his voice kept a strict tone.
     "You're leaving now. Are you ready?" he asked. She quietly nodded, zipping up her bag as she promptly made her way to the door to follow him. They walked to the front of the building near the doors, before hanging a sharp left towards a hallway and down a flight of stairs to the basement facility.
     The man flicked the light switch on, revealing a futuristic laboratory hidden beneath the building. Gadgets and machines of all sorts filled the room, while test tubes filled with curious-looking fluids lined the tables near the walls, bubbling and swirling inside their encased flasks. Nikki spanned the room with her eyes, taking in her surroundings before catching up to the man again. He stopped in front of the largest machine, turning to her to speak once more. "You'll stand in here. I'll charge the teleportation pad and make sure you get there in one piece," he said jokingly. She shivered, imagining bits of herself being lost out in the middle of the time-space continuum. Her cat ears twitched, holding her head high she walked up to the machine and stepped inside. He walked past her to the other side of the machine and flicked the switch on, starting to charge it from the inside. He pressed all kinds of buttons and worked on the machine while Nikki held her breath, hastily waiting to be teleported.

     "Alright. It's charged up. Are you ready?" he said.

     She nodded slowly, keeping her gaze fixed forward. Just breathe...

     "Processing in 5...4..." as he started to count down, Nikki could feel her heart rate accelerate with each second that passed. Her ears began to ring and dizziness twisted her mind, but she managed to keep herself stable. She closed her eyes, imagining all space laid out before her. She hoped she would see that soon.
"...1."

     "See you later, Nikki".

     The machine rumbled and a bright light briefly blinded her. She felt nothing, but she knew that the machine had done what it was supposed to do.

     She was transported to a faraway galaxy, out past the milky way where no other Earthly being had gone without the help of teleportation.

Nikki found herself in space...

...Thankfully, all in one piece.
