"Tears come from the heart and not the brain..." - Anonymous
Andy escorts Jenny to her first hour, which unfortunately is her least favorite subject; World History. He touches her shoulder before leaving for Ms. Ball's classroom at a slow pace.
Jenny turns to look into the classroom when she bumps into what feels like a brick wall. She rests her hands against the wall while she feels hands holding her forearms. She slowly looks up to see no other than the class jock, Chase Clark.
Jenny pulls away, rather quickly, and looks at him with a blank expression. "What do you want, Chase?"
He scoffs, his blonde hair moving slightly. "Do you not remember? You ran into me."
Jenny rolls her eyes. "Whatever Chase, just get out of my way." She walks forward but his hand launches forward and grasps her wrist. She pulls her hand back but his grip only hardens.
"Chase," She growls. "Let. Go."
"Come on babycakes," He whispers. He moves closer so his breath is hot against her ear, Jenny trying to pull away in the process. "I can give you the time of your life."
"Hey," Chase gets pulled back by the boy from earlier, releasing her wrist in the process and pinned against the teachers desk.
Chase groans in pain. "What the hell man?!"
He presses Chase harder against the desk. "You kiss your mom with that mouth? Listen up, hot shot, you lay your hands on another girl without permission you're asking for a world where of hurt." He leans down to Chase's ear. "Got it?"
Chase nods and is released quickly. He walks over to Jenny, his brows pinched together in a concerned manner. "Are you alright?"
Jenny nods before looking down at her wrist which is already starting to turn yellow. "It just hurts a little," She looks up at him. "But I'll be fine."
He doesn't smile but nods before holding out his hand. "Name's Garrett."
She grabs his hand. "Jennifer."
"Have a nickname?" He asks
"Most of my friends and family just call me Jenny." She smiles. "You can call me Jenny if you want."
He nods. "I'm going to go find my seat, want to join me?"
She nods and follows him to the back where he has already claimed a seat. She throws her backpack onto the desk next to Garrett and sighs, leaning against the desk.
"So," She looks up at Garrett. "Have you found your mate?"
His question catches Jenny off guard and she shakes her head. "I don't wear my necklace."
"Can I ask why?" He asks.
She shakes her head before looking at the base of Garrett's neck wear his necklace should be. She sees the glimpse of a silver chain around his neck, which is the color of the men's necklaces while the women's are gold, but the pendant to the chain is tucked into his shirt.
She looks away and crosses her arms over her chest. He looks at her before sighing. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset."
"You didn't upset me," She quickly replies. "I just don't like to talk about it and for my own reasons...it just brings up old memories."
He nods in understanding before the final bell rings and Mr. Rogers enters the room. Everyone seats themselves wherever they want, while Garrett and Jenny sit together in the back of the classroom silently getting to know each other better. Andy's promise slipping from Jenny's mind as she continues to talk to Garrett.
Once the bell rings, everyone is immediately out of their seats and out the door. Jenny leaves the room laughing with Garrett only to find Andy waiting across the hall for Jenny.
Andy looks up at the sound of Jenny's laugh and once he sees her his eyes roam over her body, landing on the bruise starting to show on her wrist. He immediately pushes himself off the wall and walks over to Garrett, his hands and face ready for a fight.
He pushes Garrett against the wall by the shoulders. "What the hell did you do to her?" He growls.
Jenny quickly puts her hand on Andy's arm. "He didn't do anything to me Andy, let him go."
Andy grabs Jenny's forearm and motions to the bruise starting to form. "What the hell is that then? It looks like fingers, Jenny!"
"It was from Chase!" Jenny says, urgent for Andy to let go of Garrett. "Garrett pushed Chase against a desk because Chase wouldn't let go of me."
Andy looks at Garrett before returning back to Jenny. He let's go of Garrett before taking Jenny and bringing his face to hers. "What happened to our promise?" He asks.
"He's a nice guy and new," She argues. "I kind of owe him too for kicking Chase's ass."
Andy looks into Jenny's ice-like eyes before nodding and letting out a breath. "Just promise me you'll be careful."
"I promise, I swear this time." She pleads.
Andy smiles before looking at Garrett, who has been leaning on the opposite side of the hallway waiting for Jenny. "Make sure you meet me before lunch then right after seventh hour, okay?"
"Okay," She looks at Garrett. "Can I go now, dad?" She smiles.
Andy smiles back at her before letting her go back to Garrett. He watches her go down the hallway, Garrett by her side the whole way. Andy's smiles fades as he makes his way to the gym for Physical Education.
