Dove Cameron walks onto the set. The weight of the world on her shoulders as the blistering heat beats down on yet another hot calirornia day.
That's the thing... Its not just another california day...
With the release of 'Descendants 3' in less than a month she, sofia, and Boo Boo had a decision to make. A really daft decision.
Would they make the fourth movie? With him gone? Would it be right? What about the fans?
As these thoughts circulated her brain she walked out onto the plaster board painted scene of Auradon.
Sophia, in her full costume, had this look of discontent on her face. "Why arent you dressed?"
Dove was struck with the feeling that maybe she didnt know her costar as well as she thought. "Because I'm grieving... Id think you would be too."
Boo Boo rose off the staircase behind them and stepped between them looking at Dove but holding his hand up to Sophia. "None of us are thinking clearly right now... Just breath. We will figure this out.
"It doesnt matter anymore." China Ann McClain's voice boomed from thespotlights above. She couldnt be seen behind the glare but she would be heard. "I'm not doing this anymore. It would just ruin us... If not in the eyes of the public then in our own eyes..." Stepping into view in her boots and jacket. Thick blue dreads swinging down onto the leather with every step towards them. "Im not okay with feeling like a monster for a little screen time."
"He would want us to go on living our lives." Sophia Carson was insisting. How weak would it make her to let her friend down like that.
"She has a point." Boo Boo backed her up. Having spent as much time with Cameron as Dove he felt obligated to march on through this as though it were war. They May have lost a damn good soldier but he would not go down in vein.
"Well good luck finding a new Uma." The daughter of Ursula was no more as she pulled off her captains hat and handed it to Dove Cameron. "I know youll make the right decision." With the pop of her brow she was gone.
The clicking of heels filled the set and the three of them turned to look at Cameron's choreographer. "Hey guys." She gave as sympathetic a smile as she knew possible. All of this was so hard to digest. "Listen i know this is complicated." She sighed clutching a clipboard. "Take a few days to think about it and let us know... Weve got a few people ready to take his spot... That sounds so horrible I know but-" she looked away at the set. Memories of working with the gang on all three movies, him right there learning every move just as quickly as she was coming up with them, filled her head. "Just think about it okay-"
"Weve already made our decision." Dove cut her off handing over the hat. "Its over. Descendants is done."
She stepped off the stage and walked away as Sophia, her co star, yelled after her. "Dove... Dove please... This means so much!" She stomped down running after her.
Boo Boo looking up at the choreographer, with a curved half smile he says to her. "Thank you... For taking a chance on me i mean. It took me a while but i caught up."
"Thank Cameron. He made you better not me.... He made all of us better." With the click of her pen she turned to look at the crew. "Jerry... Lets get this place cleaned up." She says to a stage hand passing by holding a box.
"Its over?" He asks with a furrowed brow.
She only nodded as she walks away leaving Boo Boo alone on the set.
"Hey Jerry?" Boo Boo called out to the stage hand. "Can i get a few minutes?"
With the smile the stage hand sat down the box. "Alright everybody... Go home! We'll close up shop tomorrow."
As the last of them faded into the shadows Boo Boo stepped over to the center of the stage. In his head he heard the introduction for yhe first big number he did with them 'rotten to the core.' Right here in the magical land of Auradon.
He danced. As he danced he imagined Cameron, right there with him, hitting every Mark, busting every turn, landing every jump. The moment happened just as it did that first day and as the music faded so did his vision.
He looked back at the staircase to see Dove, Sophia, and Uma standing there staring at him.
A translucent cameron stepping out from behind them with a smirk and the expression of expectation on his face.
"This meant so much to him." Boo Boo soft deep whisper flooding the room
The girls looking down at their hands in anxiety and woe unsure of what to do.
A loud thump echoed from behind him and Boo Boo turned to see Jerry's box on the ground.
Hopping off the stage he grabbed it lifting it up and looking inside.
There, wrapped in a velvet cloth, was a plaque. As he pulled it out the girls stepped down to see what it was that had captured his attention so suddenly.
They all looked upon the face of Cameron Boyce. A memorial plaque for the studio that read 'Cameron Boyce May 28th 1999- July 6th 2019. "Maybe good really is more powerful than evil." May he forever dance with the cosmos.'
"Well... We cant just let this go to waste. It will gather dust here in the studio if we leave it here." Dove sighs as she takes it from him clutching it in her hands like it could shatter at any moment.
"Not if it has future lost boys and girls to admire it. He can still change lives... " Sophia smiled "But only if we're still changing lives."
Uma held out her hand for the plaque. "Lets go find the perfect spot for it."
