I ran down the hallway, my feet becoming cold from the hard wood floor. I tiptoed as fast as I could to my mother's bedroom.
I opened the door slowly, just a peek, so I could see what was happening.
I stopped. Every muscle in my body froze, like I was a statue. "Mom?" I tried to say, but the words didn't come out. They were just wisps of air. I choked, trying again and again to talk, but I was afraid. I was more than afraid.
There was a man hovering over her as she screamed. Was he eating her alive? No that's stupid. Kissing her? I didn't know, but there was blood. Lots of it.
I wanted to save my mother, but I didn't know how. But I didn't care. I loved my mother too much to let her die. I ran in the room and screamed as soon as I saw what was happening. "Mom!!" I screamed.
The thing was walking towards me. As I backed away, I thought of what I could use to kill the man- or whatever it was. Think Ellie, think!! Mirror? No, that won't help. Pencil? Maybe?
I was scanning the room until I saw something that would work. A lamp!
I quickly ran and grabbed the lamp and swung it at its head. One time! Good Ellie, I thought. Again Ellie, again! I kept swinging at the head until I realized it was dead.
I ran towards my mother, who was in a great amount of pain. Every time she moaned, I cried harder. The thing was...eating her. She had a deep wound on her neck, and I tried getting the first aid kit, but it didn't help. She was going to die...
"Mom, please. Please stay with me. Please..." I cried.
Her once tan skin was now a pale green. She was losing blood. "Dad!!! Help us!" I yelled as he ran through the door.
"Oh god..." He whispered. I have never seen my father cry. But he was sobbing now, tears dripping into my mother's wound.
"E-Ellie...come....here..." My mother said with tears streaming down her cheeks.
I ran towards her and said, "Yes mom! Yes?"
"You...." She started crying.
"You....have to...k-kill me..." She said weakly. She started coughing up blood, soaking her bed sheets.
"No..no!" I sobbed.
"I am gonna turn soon.." She said, "Please, then I will kill you."
What did she mean "turn"?
"What do you mean? I won't kill you mom, please stay with me!!" I sobbed harder.
She put her cold hand on my cheek. "My dear Ellie. I love you. But you must kill me after I am gone. Make sure you do. Promise?"
I nodded, my face pouring with tears like a fountain.
"Good." She smiled weakly as she said, "I love you, Ellie. I love you. I love...."
Her smile faded and her hand slowly drifted away from my cheek, making me feel like I was all alone.
"Mom? Mom?!" I sobbed hard with my father, drenching his shirt with tears.
My father closed her eyes and I sobbed harder as he took a knife out.
"Wait." I said, "Don't kill her, please daddy!"
"Remember what she said?" He cried.
I nodded and looked away as the knife touched her forehead, sending blood down to the floor.
I sobbed hard as ever. My mother was gone. I would never see her ever again. I would never hug her, or laugh with her. Thinking this made me cry so hard that it hurt my eyes.
I clutched to the bed sheets, and closed my eyes. The warmth it used to give me was all gone. The fabric was now red, when it used to be a beautiful green. It was now a dark, blood-red color, from my mother's blood. I hugged her lifeless body, trying to bring her to life again. I cried, drenching the bed sheets with my tears. I held onto her body before my dad pulled me away from her.
"Ellie, look at me." My father said
I obeyed and looked at him.
"Lisa and Aryanna are...dead." He said with a few tears.
Lisa and Aryanna were my sisters. They were so kind to me. How could my little 5 year old sunshine be gone? My life was ruined. I sobbed again, the tears burning my face.
"You didn't protect them, did you!!" I screamed with rage. How could he?
"Be quiet Ellie! And I did what I could..." He said.
"Where is Wyatt?" I asked. He is my younger brother. He is 13 years old.
"He is okay." Dad said, "But we have to go. These things are killing everyone, we must get somewhere safe."
I nodded, wiped away my tears, and my dad and I sneaked downstairs.
"Wyatt?" I whispered.
"Hi Ellie." He said. As soon as the words left his mouth, I was relieved.
We quietly sneaked outside, holding backpacks full of food, water, materials, and clothes. Only some clothes.
I was wearing running shoes, a t-shirt, a puffy jacket over it, a baseball cap, and jeans. Thankfully my dad is a cop, so he brought guns, bullets, and knives.
We checked our car (a Chrysler) to see how much gas it had, and I was praying the whole time. God must've heard me, because we had a full tank.
We put everything in the backseat and I sat in the front, while my brother sat in the back.
I don't know why we have to leave, but I must obey. Whatever it is, it must be dangerous enough for us to leave our pretty house.
My dad told me to watch everything in the front, and my brother watches everything behind us while he drives.
I fought the tears as my house became smaller and smaller. I had such a perfect life before, now that I realize it. And I am thankful for that.
But I miss my mom and my sisters. I remember yesterday, how happy we were. Now everything changed, and it happened all so quickly.
I hope it ends soon, this thing. I miss my old life. I wanna go back...
