Chapter 2

Darkness. All I could see was black and some hints of red all around me. I couldn't move. I felt like I couldn't breathe. Was I dead?

Oh my God. I am dead! I couldn't see the light so I guess I didn't make it to Heaven. I did not even live for a long time, after all, I was only thirty-two.

I felt pain on my shoulders. Oh no, the devil has begun his torture. The pain intensified. No, the devil is killing me! But how? I'm already dead.

Maybe my torture is to die over and over again! After all, death was my biggest fear.

I tried to talk, but my mouth felt heavy. I tried again.
"Devil stop. You are so cruel, you even torture the handicapped!"

"Devil? Oh, he must think that he is dead. Remove the blindfold and stop biting his shoulder!"

"Yes, master."

The pain stopped and I was suddenly blinded by the light.

"You! You made me think that I was dead. How could you do that to me? To a hand- "

"Oh shut up!"

I turned my attention from the man who kidnapped me to a new figure. The man was sitting on a chair not too far from me and he was wearing a hooded shirt that obscured my view to his face.

He did not look very tall or muscular but they were two of them and I was sure my tall lanky frame would not do much damage.

"Fed, get him some water."

"Yes, master." the man in the suit replied as he ran away.

"Who are you?" I asked the hooded man "And why would you kidnap a hand-"

"Kidnap a handicapped man. Yes, I kidnapped you and can you stop saying handicapped. It is really annoying."

"But-but why?"

At that moment the 'Fed' came back with a cup in his hands and forced me to drink the contents.

"How dare you force water down my throat!"

"Maybe I should have given another human this opportunity. This one complains a lot and is quite pathetic."

I ignored the insults and focused on a particular word he said that piqued my interest.
"Opportunity?"

Even though I could not see his face, I could tell he was smiling.
He stood up from the chair and approached me as a lion does to its prey.

"You see, people love what they can't have.
If you are poor, you want to be rich.
If you are rich, you want to be richer.
Humans are never satisfied." he paused to make sure I was following.

"That is why we all seek immortality. Cause we know we shall never have it..."

"But what if there was a way to make that feeling of ungratefulness go away? What if there was a way to achieve the most desired element that would put our other wants to rest.
So yes, I am giving you the greatest opportunity of all..."

His voice raised to a higher octave as he opened his hands in dramatic flair.

"I am giving you the opportunity to become immortal!"

The whole room was silent as we stared at each other. I stared at the hooded man, the hooded man stared at me, Fed stared at me staring at the man, the man turned to stare at Fed stare at me stare at him.
Finally, the silence was broken.

"Have you gone off the deep end!" I screamed at the mad man. "It is impossible to become immortal! And to think you kidnapped an innocent handicapped man to share your loony information with."

"How dare you talk to my master like that!" the 'Fed' said angrily as he approached me.

"No Fed, he's just a little overwhelmed, no need for any violence."

The 'Fed' nodded and stepped away from me.

"A little? I'm stupendously enraged." I said angrily. "Now untie me, you hooligans!"

"You will regret your decision," he said calmly. "Fed, untie him and send him on his merry way."

After the 'Fed' removed the binds from my hands, I got up and walked to the exit.

I was sure that I looked like a disheveled mad man. I could feel my dark brown hair stick up in different angles and I'm sure my black eyes looked dead and tired.

I intended to report them to the police when I remembered I had no idea where they kept my bags. Instead of going back, I continued to walk with my head held high. When I reached the sidewalk, I brought my good hand up to signal a taxi.

That's when the peculiar events began...

Firstly, I was almost run over by a speeding car. Then the taxi I entered belonged to an actual thief who robbed me of my clothes.

After that, I had to spend the night naked in a ditch. When I woke up I realized that the ditch was inhabited by some unfriendly insects that decided it would be fun to bite my pale unprotected body.

But all of that did not compare to the worst of them all. I continued my walk back home through the woods so that I would not run into other people when I heard the sounds of leaves crunching behind me.

I assumed it was another person and panic shot through me that someone had seen me in my current state. But what was behind me was worse than a person.

It was a bear. And not the friendly kind you see in children shows.

It was an extremely large black bear and it was looking at me like I was the water it needed to survive.

I ran through the woods wildly as it chased me. I knew I couldn't outrun a bear so I had to outsmart it. Sadly, my brain was not in the position to think so I feel down a steep slope and into a river.

The good thing about that; the bear was no longer chasing me, the bad part was that I had no knowledge in the arts of swimming.

The cold water froze my body as it entered my nose and mouth. I was screaming as my head felt heavy and my limbs immobile.

My life flashed in front of my eyes and I was not pleased with what I saw.

I could feel the darkness engulf me as I panicked. I did not want to die. I did not want to die!
