lt is 4 o'clock in the morning and l am driving around in L.A. with my little sister, Samie. My 30th birthday is in less than a month and Samie is 15. Her actual mom wasn't taking care of her so she ran away and we took her in. lt turned out that she was a big fan of me, a Katycat. l also have a younger brother, David, who is 26 and an older sister, Angela, who is 32. Since Samie is a little too young for my parents to take care of her, l pretty much take care of her. She basically lives with me when she doesn't have school. l think l am going to soon get custody of her. l have been talking to my parents about getting custody and they are all for it. That is actually where l am on my way to. We haven't really talked about it to Samie because we are waiting until it is official that l could get custody. My parents live in Santa Barbara so l am driving to their house. lt is usually hard for me to drive anywhere in the afternoon because of paparazzi so that is why we left in the morning. Samie is already asleep in the car. l notice that she doesn't have her seat belt on so l try to reach over and put it on her, but l swerve off the road and drive straight into a building

l had my seat belt on so l didn't get that badly hurt. l climb out of the driver's seat to look for Samie because she flew through the glass. When l get to the front of the car, she is on the ground bleeding and unconscious. The customer that was in the store is calling for help. l kneel on the ground and start sobbing. Next thing l know, paparazzi are surrounding me. Sometimes, l wish l wasn't alive. All of the good things in life always turn bad because of me. l mess everything up. The police get the paparazzi to back off and the medics check to see if she is still breathing. They put her on a gurney and put her in an ambulance truck. l see John Mayer stop in front of me and he offers me a lift to the hospital, but l turn it down. Don't get me wrong, l want to be there with Samie when she wakes up, but l will just mess things up even more.

"Katy, are you sure you don't want a lift?" he asks

"l'm sure. l can walk," l say as l start walking the way the ambulance went. John gets in his car and drives slowly by me. Driving as slow as l am walking.

"Katy, l'm not leaving until you get in this car," he says. l sit on the ground and bury my head between my knees.

"l... l just.... l just don't know what to say to anybody," l say while sobbing. l hear his footsteps getting closer to me until he sits down next to me

"Look, this happens to a lot of people all the time. You are not the first person to have done this. l'm sure your parents will understand," he says

"lt's not them l'm worried about!" l exclaim

"Who are you worried about then?" he asks

"l don't.... l don't know what to... to tell Samie when she wakes up," l say

"You just need to tell her what happened and she will understand," he says

"Well, what if she doesn't? What if she doesn't trust me anymore? What if she doesn't want to be around me anymore?" l ask

"Look, l know the only time she wasn't with you is when you are away for a tour unless it isn't that far away or it is on the weekend or if she has school, but a lot of parents get in car crashes with their kids all the time and their kids don't run away afraid of them," he says

"She's not my actual kid!!!" l exclaim

"l know, but you want her to be and she wants you to be her mom," he says

"What makes you think that?" l ask

"l see you walking around with her in L.A all the time. The way you two act together. The way she pushes you around. That isn't how siblings would act. That is how a mom and daughter would act," he says
