Izuku didn't know what else to do but duck away quickly, clear of the girl and whatever she was attacking with. He grunted as he impacted with the floor, but scrambled to his feet swiftly. Now he could see Mai's Harpie Lady, sharp talons, fangs and all.
Great... another monster! Izuku thought in despair. But I guess it makes sense for the duelists to be reliant on their decks like we are with our powers.
"The surprises aren't over yet!" Mai said, smirking. "Watch this!"
She put a card in her spell and trap zone. "This is my Elegant Egotist spell card! With it, I can now summon my Harpie Lady Sisters to the field to join my Harpie Lady, and I'll equip them with my Cyber Shield!"
Three more winged girls appeared next to the first one, and were quickly fitted with purple armor. They all flexed their talons and wings, screeching.
"Harpie Lady Sisters, knock him down!" Mai commanded.
Come on! Think already! Izuku braced himself as the three harpies flew at him. The one with short orange hair swooped behind him and she latched her talons onto his shoulders.
For holograms, these sure do hurt more than I imagined, Izuku winced as the claws dug into his skin.
The technology used for the duel disks of professional duelists were made with Solid Vision and other special enhancements, allowing them to also be able to inflict actual damage. It should be no surprise that the duelist course students had these very duel disks as well, though the enhancements were eased to a lower setting for educational and practical use.
Izuku flicked his left pointer finger just as the second Harpie moved in to claw at his face. The blast sent both him and the Harpie Sisters reeling backwards from the sheer force of it. Izuku groaned, on the ground once more as he looked up feeling slightly dazed. He saw Mai, also kneeling, and she let out a grunt, rubbing her head.
"Ugnh..." Her violet eyes widened as she looked around her for her monsters frantically. "You destroyed my Harpie Lady Sisters!!" She shouted at him, enraged.
"Ah.. um... sorry...?" Izuku mumbled, unsure for what to say to the girl.
He got to his feet once more, sighing as he inspected his hands. Once again, only one finger was broken, now one on his right hand and one on the left.
At least I'm getting the hang of this! He thought, feeling a small glow of pride.
"Aye you there!" Izuku's head turned to the voice, which sounded like an American accent, perhaps Brooklyn?
His eyes landed on a tall boy with dark eyes and dirty blonde hair, sporting a green jacket and a white shirt.
"Ya don't mess with my friends, ya hear?!" The boy said sternly. "Ya gotta get through me first! And my good old Red Eyes Black Dragon o' course!"
Izuku stared up at the menacing dragon, eyes wide. It roared loudly, and by the looks of it, was one of the biggest monsters summoned yet during the test.
I do NOT want to fight that, Izuku thought. It must be a really strong monster! How am I supposed to fight that huge thing? Mai's Harpies were one thing. This is a whole other level!
However, before anyone could proceed, Izuku, Mai and the boy saw three silhouettes of different colours; magenta, purple and sky blue. The three lights seemed to dance as they made their way to the Red Eyes Black Dragon, then faded and they saw three boys, all sharing similar faces but different clothes and hair. Following them was a boy with crimson eyes, and goggles rested on his head of red and green hair. It was Yuya, the boy who told Pegasus he wanted to be an entertainer duelist.
Yuya laughed. "Come on guys! Showtime!"
