" Another writer with her head in the clouds." I heard the words whispered behind my back as the door now seperating me from the publishers closed. Two hours they had sat me there in their stuffy, air-condition-less office criticizing the speed of my novel ( it was too slow ), my characters ( they were too dark ) and the recurring themes that 'every other new writer is talking about' : Corrupted government, misuse of high technology, rebellious youth and some romance here and there.
I took a taxi downtown. The world outside must have been beautiful but I would not see it that day. Through the window, nature was a lurking darkness, faces were laughing at me, mocking me saying you've been rejected for the third time.
In about ten minutes, I was sporting my work uniform as I walk up and down an isle of romance novels.
You see, I work at a library.
" The new releases this week are awesome. I think I know what your favorite's gonna be."
