The middle is so safe that many seek refuge here.
Then the middle becomes crowded and eventually you get pushed to one side or the other.

Safe from those that would look at you harshly for being on one side instead of the other.
But sometimes

The middle is the wrong place to be
There is a right
And there is a wrong
One side is good
And the other is bad
In that case
Standing in the middle is just as bad
Because you aren't reaching towards the good
Or pushing against the bad
The middle is safe until it is wrong to be safe.
Then you have to make a choice
Leave the middle or not.
