I wake up to a scream echoing through out the house only to realise it came from me. I was the one screaming.

I hear foot steps pounding on the floors heading toward my room then my door is slammed open and the light is turned on.

"Don't hurt her!" My dad screams holding a pillow in attack mode.

"Dad...." I say. He looks at me then looks around my room.

"You was screaming. I was ready to attack whoever was in here." He says.

"I had a nightmare. But, you plan on attacking with a pillow?" I laugh.

He looks at the pillow in his hands then he also starts laughing. Then his whole facial expression changes as soon as he see's my face. His eyes go dark.

"What happened to you?" He roars.

"When Mom and I went to the mall, there was two people fist fighting and I got in-between them to stop it." I lie. I told him mom wanted me home because she wanted to spend time with me because she hadn't had the chance to.

Dad walks out of my room and I look at my phone to see it is nine in the morning. I throw my legs over the side of the bed and I grab my clothes to get a quick shower.

I walk in the bathroom and when I see my face in the mirror I gasp. My face is bruised really bad due to my mom's beating. Tears strick my eyes but I try to blink them away only for them to start falling. I am tired of crying. Tired of being hurt.

I get a shower and when I get out my phone starts ringing. I walk over to it and I see Reece is calling.

"Hey." I say answering.

"Hey. What are you doing?" He asks.

"Getting dressed. Just got out of the shower." I answer.

"Oh. I was wondering if you would like to have dinner over at my house with my parents." He says slowly.

"Yeah, sure. What time?" I ask.

"I'll pick you up around six." He says.

"Sounds good. I'm going to go eat now though. See you then." I say.

"See you then." He says then I hang up.

I walk down the stairs to see everyone in the kitchen. Jai turns to see me and he gasps.

"What happened to your face?" He questions.

"She said she got in-between two people fighting yesterday when her and your mom went to the mall." Dad says. Mom looks at me with a smirk on her face but it changes into sympathy when they look at her.

"She was only trying to stop them for her to only get dragged in it also." Mom says. I wish I could just tell them the truth.

I grab an apple then I head back up to my room. I get out my notebooks so I can finish catching up on my work that I missed.

It doesn't take long for me to do because I already know all of it. I learned this back home.

What am I going to do while I wait for Reece today? I don't want to go down there with everyone else. I don't want to be around mom today. I grab my phone and realise it has already been two hours.
*
I looked at myself in the mirror. I had on a light blue silky dress that reached to my knees. I found a pair of flats in the back of my closet. To hide the bruises, I put on foundation then gave myself a smokey eye.

I grab my small handbag and put my keys, and wallet in it. I grab my phone for it to light up a message from Reece saying he is on his way.

I put my phone in my handbag also and walk down the stairs.

"Where are you going?" My mom asks.

"I am going to have dinner with Reece and his parents." I solemnly answer.

"You didn't ask." She says.

"Actually, honey, she did." My dad says walking in.

"He's here." I say, seeing the lights to his truck show through the window. I walk out the front door, and Reece is sitting on the hood of his truck waiting for me.

Once he see's me he gets up and starts walking to me. "You look beautiful." He says and stops right in front of me.

"Thank you." I say sheepishly. He grabs my hand and gives it a small kiss then he interlaces our fingers together. We start walking to his truck and when we get to it, he opens the door for me.

I get in still holding his hand. He leans in and gives me a kiss then he shuts the door and walks to his side.

He gets in and starts his truck. Soft pop music starts playing. He grabs my hand and we hold hands for the entire ride.

"Are you ready?" Reece says turning his truck off. It took us about twenty minutes to get to his parents house. We road in a comfortable silence holding each other's hands.

"What if they don't like me?" I ask.

"They will." He says almost immediately.

"How do you know?" I ask.

"You are an amazing girl. They would be crazy not to like you." He says. I nod my head then open my door. He does the same then we walk up to his front door.

He opens it and the aroma of food immediately hits me. It smells delicious.

Suddenly a woman comes into view. She has short brown hair. She has brown eyes also.

"Well, you must be Syana. I've heard a lot about you. Reece just about never shuts up about you." She says engulfing me in a hug.

"It's nice to meet you Mrs." I say not knowing what to call her.

"You can call me Shirley." She says.

When she pulls away, I give Reece a look and he looks at me sheepishly.

"Dinner is done if we all want to make our way to the dining room." Shirley says.

We start walking to another room in the house and once we get there, a man is sitting at the head of the table.

"Syana, it's so nice to meet you. I am Rodger." He says.

"It's nice to meet you also." What else am I suppose to say?

Shirley sits on the left side of the table while Reece and I sit on the right. Shirley and Rodger seem like nice people, and they have a beautiful home. It feels homey.
