Obviously I thought that everything to do with Vic is my fault. It kind of is. I mean he looked really sad, more angry. But with Vic sometimes that can be the same thing. I'm getting really worried about him. B says he isn't worth worrying about and that he hasn't earned my concern. That may be true but it doesn't stop my worry glands from sparking up.
B and I are going out to the mall. It's quite chilly for San Diego today. Saying that it's October. I'm just not used to the chilly weather. I don't even have any clothes that will actually keep me warm. I used all my winter clothes up in May when I made a quilt out of them. So today I'm wearing a baby blue frilly summer dress with black army boots. Mom said I don't match. I said neither do her grey roots and dyed hair.
We don't really have any money. But we like walking around. It keeps us off of the streets. "Ask me how my date was." B suddenly said.
"How was your date?" I grinned.
"It was great! Linton is so much fun."
"Mike said he's weird."
"But Mike is weird." B reminded me.
"I know. He's like the King of weird."
"After the concert Linton and I went to a diner and he let me write on his face in chocolate and then he started talking to me about the mechanics of a super villain."
"What are the mechanics?" I asked curiously. I might need this information for later life.
"Don't know," she shrugged. "I wasn't listening. I started making out with him to shut him up."
"Are you boyfriend and girlfriend now?" I asked.
"Yeah, I decided."
"Did you ask him?" I asked seriously. Usually B gets her prom dates by telling boys to pick her up at seven.
"No. I just said that he's my boyfriend now and he was really happy."
"How do you know?"
"He cried."
"Maybe it was sadness or fear."
"No, I asked. He said he's never had a girlfriend before and he's ready to buy me flowers and chocolates and serve me."
"Where do I find boys to serve me?" I pouted.
"I don't know, but I'm going into the bathroom." B shrugged.
She went off and I started walking along so I didn't look lonely. If you stand still you look like you have no friends. But if you're walking, you look like you have a purpose. Then someone walked right into me and knocked me off my feet. I was lying flat on my back and looked up. Mike was staring down at me. I waited for him to help me up. He didn't.
"Mike!" I exclaimed.
"Oh, sorry!" he rushed. He took my hand and pulled me to my feet. He looked me up and down and sniggered. "What the hell are you wearing?"
"It's a dress!" I said proudly.
"People are walking around with jackets and you're wearing a frilly dress."
"Don't you like my frilly dress?" I frowned.
"The dress is fine." he shook his head.
"Okay..." I trailed away.
"Just forget it!" Mike snapped. "Doesn't matter." he added moodily. Bipolar much.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Nothing." Mike shrugged.
"Then why are you all Mr Grumpy McGrumpison?"
"I'm not. Look, I'm sorry for snapping at you, Nel. Just having a bad day." he said.
