Point of View: Patton, Third Person
Timeline: Flashback (cont.)

"Oh goodness!" Patton jumped to his feet, rushing forward to give Virgil a hug. "You guys should have called! I was worried sick!" He fussed as Virgil walked into the living room to say hello.

Virgil chuckled, hugging Patton back. "Sorry, Pat. Didn't mean to worry you. We, uh, got held up," Virgil jutted his thumb towards the door.

Patton curiously headed for the door to -

... what?

Logan and a man that Patton had never seen before were hovering in the doorway, lips locked. Logan had his arms wrapped around the stranger's neck. The strange man had his fingers hooked onto Logan's belt loops, holding him close.

Patton just stared, unable to tear his eyes away.

Logan pulled back first, breathless.

"Was that... good?" The stranger asked, pressing their foreheads together. His hands trailed up and down Logan's sides. "Was that okay?"

"Y-Yeah," Logan stuttered. Patton had never seen him so flustered. "Yeah, it was... wow."

The stranger seemed to like that response. He smiled, kissing Logan softly again. "I should go," the man said.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay?" Logan offered. "It's late."

"Oh, I wouldn't want to intrude," The Stranger declined, tipping his hat towards Logan. "Goodnight, Logan."

"I... wouldn't mind," Logan stated shyly, cheeks flushing. "Please stay?"

The stranger smiled at that, but shook his head. "Not tonight," he said. "One day," he promised.

Logan nodded, understandingly. The stranger leaned forward, getting on his tippy toes to kiss Logan's forehead. He gave Logan a fond smile that made Patton's stomach twist almost painfully.

The man turned away and Logan hovered for a moment before closing the door behind him.

After closing the door, Logan took what almost looked like a stunned step backwards, his hands rising and tenatively brushing his lips.

"Lo?"

Logan jumped a little in surprise, startled out of his reviere. "Oh, uh," Logan cleared his throat, adjusting his ever-present tie. "Hello, Patton. Apologies, I didn't see you there."

Patton took a hesitant step backwards. "Lo... who was that? And why did you -" Patton bit his bottom lip, cutting himself off.

No, no it was none of his business who Logan kissed. Absolutely none. Logan was his own person, he was not Patton's place to - to be -

"Oh, um," Logan cleared his throat nervously. "That was Dee. He is the man that lent me his umbrella earlier today."

"Oh," Patton squeaked, trying his best not to seem bothered.

"We ran into each other at the bar tonight and he told me..." Logan looked a little dazed and shy smile lighting up his face. "Patton, he's my soulmate."

And Logan didn't mean to, he really didn't. But Patton couldn't help the small gasp and the way his eyes filled up with tears. Somewhere he imagined the sound of breaking glass as his heart shattered. One hand came to cover his mouth and the other flew to his heart, as if his mundane hand could hold all the pieces together. No, this man... this man couldn't be Logan's soulmate...

Could he?

Patton forced a smile, even as the tears fell. "Aww! That's so amazing, Lo!" Patton grinned, wiping away his tears. "Sorry for crying, I'm just so happy for you!" he lied.

Now, Patton didn't like lying, he really didn't. But... this was a good lie, wasn't it? He really did want to support Logan. He didn't want him to feel hurt just because Patton had been stupid enough to actually believe that they were soulmates.

"Thank you, Patton. That is very sweet of you," Logan smiled at his emotional friend. "I'm going to head to bed. I hope you do soon, you need optimal rest," he advised, heading up the stairs.

"Y-Yeah, I will soon," Patton wiped away his tears. "I'm so, so happy for you, Logan."

Logan turned slightly, smiling in response, before heading upstairs.

The moment Logan was out of sight, Patton crumped to the ground and sobbed, as silent as he could.
