Chapter 27: Not a Paradise

"Well then you shouldn't have a problem with this." And with that, Hero stormed out of Notch's throne room, leaving the both of them dumbfounded.

"They didn't like the fact that I was in a relationship with someone who was a different species."

"That was a little... stubborn, of you." Allison commented. "You could've heard them out, but I probably wouldn't be existing right now if you did."

"Yeah, I know, I should have. But my relationship with her was so important to me that I was willing to defend it, even against my own family."

She thought for a moment, then added, "Relationships are worth fighting for."

"What do you mean?"

"I had the same kind of encounter once. That was how I got my scar, the one on my eye."

"Oh," Hero replied, not sure if he should ask for the details. "Well, speaking of which, can you see out of that eye?"

"I can, actually. It's just a black line down the middle-left of my vision, and it seems a little darker out of my left eye. I assume the knife didn't hit the cord thing that allows you to see, it must have missed it."

"It's weird that it doesn't appear in your human form, but your broken bones do."

"Yeah, it is weird."

Sparklea told Hero she had an egg.

"Is it fertile?" He had asked.

"No, not yet. I really don't want to mate with my betrothed, so I'm hesitant to tell him." She was in her dragon form, looking down at her belly. She was her usual orange and dark gray colors, but some scales were dotted with purple.

"Why is he your betrothed?"

"I didn't have the luxury to choose my mate."

"Oh. Well, it's your body, your egg, and soon, your child. It should be your decision of choosing who should be your mate, not someone else."

"You really think so?" She looked up at him, eyes filled with hope.

"Yeah, definitely."

"Unfortunately, it's illegal. The punishment would be death to the egg, the mother, and the father." She looked away.

"Well, it can be a secret."

"What are you saying?"

Hero thought for a moment. "I could father your egg. You could lay it in secret, and if he finds out, say you found it somewhere; on your doorstep, outside of the nursery, or in some bushes." He listed a few more before stopping.

"I... suppose I could." She was hesitant about her answer, but she eventually found it.

"Yes. Ok, let's do it."
