"Why. . ."
She asked, her head down as her tears rages to fall out her honey doe eyes but she quickly forces them back in.
"Im sorry."
Is all he says as he turns his back to her, walking away and leaving her standing there... Frozen in the middle of the street, darkness swarmed around her, the only light that shined were from the broken street lamps.
She stood still, she couldn't move... No matter how hard she tried to, the shock of it all was too much for her brain to comprehend all at once.
Then like a bat it hits her, it hits hard.
Everything that just happened finally had adjusted into her brain, he had left her.
The man she thought who would love her forever, the man that had promised to never hurt her, the man who made her feel as if she was the most beautiful creature to walk the Earth, the man who had looked straight into her eyes and told her
"I will stay with you, always and forever."
Had left her...just like that.
And yet... she still loved him, no matter how hard she wanted to scream at his retreating figure about how much he was hurting her and how much she hated him right at this moment, she couldn't.
Because in truth, she didn't hate him. She loved him, she loved him so much that all she wanted right now was for him to turn back, look at her with those dark stormy eyes of his and tell her it was all a prank.
So thats what she did... She waited, she watched him as he walked away and just stood there.
Right smack in the middle of the road at 10pm on a clear wednesday night, she stood still, silently waiting for him to turn around.
Then two bright yellow lights knock her out of her frozen state but by the time she realizes it, its too late, the black semitruck had already rammed so much force into her petite body that it made her fly 4 feet backwards into the pavement.
For a moment everything was still, she was calm and everything around her was playing in slow motion, she couldn't hear anything except the rythmic beats of her heart then suddenly she is jerked back into reality as her body makes a forceful impact with the cold ,hard concrete road.
She slowly starts to lose consciousness as black dots cloud her vision.
"VERADY! OH MY GOD VERADY WAKE UP!!! PLS GOD NO!"
She hears his voice screaming, the voice of the man she loved so much... But something was wrong, he sounded so far away, she could feel his arms holding her but it was like he wasn't there...she felt alone.
He lifts her weak body and lays her head on his chest, her blood stains his pure white shirt and he couldn't help but feel responsible.
"Verady...Baby pls stay with me don't close your eyes! VERADYY!"
He yells as he holds her closer.
She looks at his tear stained face, and with all the strength she could gather she lifts up her aching hand to wipe his tears away.
She dosen't feel so alone anynore...
His voice is becoming clearer but she could already feel her life draining away, she didn't hate him nor did she blame him for what was about to happen but it was clear from the way he looked at her that he had already placed all the blame on himself and the guilt was slowly going to eating him up by the second.
With the last of her strength she opens her mouth to say her last words.
"I love you baby, shhh don't cry anymore, I hate seeing you sad.
I want you to know that I don't blame you and that I will always love you. Please remember that I will always be with you even if I'm gone I'm still here...forever"
She whispers in ragged breaths.
As she places her hand on his chest just above his heart, she looks up into his eyes one last time and smiles.
She could hear his heart beating from her place on his chest, she keeps her hand on his heart and closes her eyes, her arms fall to her side and her entire body goes limp.
He hold her even tighter and rocks her lifeless body, as tears stream down his face he lets out an agonizing scream but it is drowned out by the loud, roaring sirens of the ambulance, soon enough the paramedics tear him away and carefully carry Verady's body onto the gurney, they roll her into the back of the ambulance where they start trying to revive her.
"1..2..3.. CLEAR!!"
The electricity courses through her body making it jump.
"CLEAR!!" they do it again.
"CLEARR!!!" and again.
But it is all for naught, she was already long gone.
He watched as her body jolted up with each electric shock, a small bud of hope had formed in his chest, 'maybe she's still alive'
he thought to himself.
But deep down he knew it was already too late... She was dead and it was all his fault, if only he hadn't broken up with her, if only he hadn't done it in the middle of the road, if only he had told her the real reason why he had to leave. If only it could have been him instead.
He looks into the ambulance where they shock her heart one last time before they put the equipment away, they all keep their heads down..
The main paramedic looks at his silver watch,
"Time of death, 10:21 p.m."
As soon as he heard those words, he felt it. He felt the undescribable pain you feel when you loose someone you truly love, he felt guilty, he felt sad, he felt angry... Angry at himself for leaving her... He was just trying to protect her from the people who wanted to use her to hurt him.
But in the end, she died anyways... And it was him who caused her death.
He would never forgive himself.
