I smelt the smoke before I saw it. The house that I had been staying at was up in flames. Zahndrik was across the road, admiring his work. I growled low in my throat. My wolf instincts wanted me to rip him limb from limb and watch him roast but I restrained myself. Instincts will get me killed. I crouched low to the ground. Zahndrik turned to the growing crowd. I took that opportunity and dashed into the house.

"Dahlia?! Glory?! Where are you?!" I heard muffled screams from two different rooms. I rushed into Dahlia's room and saw Dahlia chained to her bed with cloth tied around her mouth. I shifted into my wolf and snapped the chains. Once she was free, I shifted back. "Get outside. I'll get Glory."

I sprinted off to Glory's room and spotted Glory passed out surrounded by a ring of fire that was slowly creeping closer to her. I quickly shifted and jumped through the flames to get to her. After snapping the chains, I slung her over my back and ran out of the room. I went through the window I originally went through and hid in the bush next to Dahlia. Then I phased again.

The house crumbled to rubble and Vampires instantly started to put out the flames with water from the river near by. Finally, the fire was out. Zahndrik turned to the crowd again and I was able to hear what he said this time.

"This is what happens when you don't pay your taxes. You don't get second chances and we won't let you live if you can't pay once." I growled low and long. "Furthermore, for those of you I have not collected taxes from, do so now or else you will end up like those Fairy folk."

People quickly paid thier share of taxes and retreated to their homes. Once the Vampires had left, Dahlia and I set to work to wake up Glory. She had inhaled too much of the smoke. "Glory, wake up Glory! Please wake up!" I checked for a heart beat. Her heart was barely beating. I started performing CPR. Finally, after breathing air into her lungs six times, Glory coughed and came through.

"Dahlia..." She said weakly.

"I'm here." Dahlia squeezed her hand for reassurance. "I'm here. So is King Dustin. He brought you back to the land of the living."

Glory looked at me. Her face was covered in soot. "Thank you, my king." With that she went to sleep. I made sure she was still alive before I helped Dahlia carry her to the village. The villagers were starting to come back outside. They spotted us and a few came to help us. "The king has saved the Fairies! He is still alive!"

Once Glory was resting on a bench, I looked to the villagers. They were talking excitedly and the voices were growing louder. I held up a hand and the crowd silenced. "My loyal subjects, I come to the aid of these Fairies because it was the right thing to do. I would have done the same for any of you." I paused to let them absorb this. "I do not agree with what the Vampires are doing and I will set this right. For now, no one is to speek of what happened today, for if the Vampires were to get word of this, it might not just be one or two houses to go; it would be the whole village.

A collective gasp ran through the crowd. "Not a word." The crowd agreed and quickly dispersed to go back to what they were doing before. I turned back to the sisters. "I must make my leave. My two weeks are almost up and I don't want to miss my Aithne."

Dahlia nodded. "Stay the night with one of the other villagers until morning then you may continue with your journey."

"I would love to be of assistance." A voice said from behind. I turned to see a High Elf. He had light green skin and emerald eyes. He stood about seven feet tall and he seemed to be willing to do anything for me.
