Bonnie Deaton is a witch. Has been since birth. Her mother raised her and taught Bonnie how to control her magic. However, after her mother dies in a car accident, Bonnie moves back to Beacon Hills and is taken-in by her father, Alan Deaton. Bonnie has always been more like Alan than her mother - both being a calming presence and having a love for helping animals. So, Alan teaches his daughter to become an Emissary and learning the ways of a druid.

Alec Argent is a hunter. Instead of moving to Beacon Hills when the rest of his family did, he was sent to train with some relatives in France. When Allison goes to France on vacation, she drags Alec back to Beacon Hills. Alec and Allison are both very talented with a bow, but Alec is better at hand-to-hand combat. After his mother's death, he's joined his father and sister in trying to stop hunting supernatural creatures, and helping them instead.

Thanks to a sequence of events, Bonnie and Alec meet, and are instantly drawn to each other - both feeling attracted to each other. However, at first they thought it was just physical attraction. Turns out, these two are soulmates, and will fall in-and-out of love while trying to survive an Alpha pack and a Dark druid.
