""when a charmer uses biblical phrases,
in doing so he severs them from God."
When this occurs, the words,
despite their holy origin,
fall into the hands of the Devil."
(Raising the Devil, Bill Ellis 1950)
the righteous words you spoke
of wanting me to find myself
were not righteous in any light
though they were not for your own gain
your words were not out of love
but not of lust or hate either
how can you dare me to understand them
when I've got no underlying feeling to analyze
I have written of you in no religious context
except my own beliefs
founded in no faith
just insignificant biases of affirmation
the Devil, the God, any and every deity between
yet none I call my own
your satanic themes and sayings
the blasphemy of any church
engrained in my head
I always circle back to them
