My walk to WWHS is dreadful. Every morning it takes 20 minutes of walking just to get to my living nightmare, and that is on the better days.
When I reached the end of my drive way, it started to rain. A million thoughts ran through my mind, most ending with curse words. I threw my hood up over my head and sped up my pace as the low rumble of thunder rang throughout the neighborhood. Now I was at a jog. My feet hit the gray cement as I passed by houses that were all the same with their white walls and brown doors. That's when I saw lightning overhead.
I froze in my spot. Memories swirling in my head. My mother's voice begging out, the gunshots, and my screams. I got lost in the memory, not even realizing where I was standing, I heard a loud noise coming from beside me.
I snapped out of my daze just in time to jump back as the car passed in front of me, only missed my torso by an inch or so. It was a black Toyota Camry.
I felt my eyes go wide as I realized how close I was to being ran over. I shook my head as I saw a boy around my age coming out from the car. His black hair, and dark clothing were all I could see through the pouring rain. I felt like I knew him from somewhere. I just couldn't remember where.
"What are you doing standing in the middle of the road you freak?!?" His low voice yelled across the pounding rain. He began to walk closer to me. My brain refused to work.
"Didn't you hear me? Do you have a death wish? You could've died?!?" I could now see his green eyes, sharp jaw, and curved nose. I bowed my head and began to shake, ashamed of myself.
When I looked up, he had a look of fury, and confusion written across his face. The only thing I could think of in this moment was to run.
And that's exactly what I did...
