You cupped your hands around your mouth, warm breath misting as it flows between your fingers. Five minutes over the time to meet up, but you weren't worried. Stretch was like that. You'd give him another ten before you start texting. Looking up at the heavy dark clouds, you wonder if the forecast was wrong and it was going to snow anyway.
When the monsters had emerged some three years ago, your family had been ecstatic. Mostly because Chara had finally come home, but also because the legends were true. Legends of your ancestors intervening in the genocidal war and sealing the Monsters Underground to protect them from the Humans.
A small smile, thinking on the scene you had left a short while ago. Chara giving you a double thumbs-up as half a chocolate bar hangs out of her mouth. Papa Asgore fretting and trying to get you to take a thermos of hot tea. Father trying to simultaneously calm Papa down and fuss over you and your outfit.
Glancing down, you run your gloved fingers through the fluff of your long coat. Underneath was a (f/c) sweater dress and (s/c) leggings. Black boots clung to your calves and gave you some extra height. Your hair was loose and wavy under a fluffy hat, and an orange scarf wrapped around the lower half of your face. Lifting the edge up, you take a deep breath of your boyfriend's slightly spicy honey scent.
Your family tended to fall in love hard and fast, throwing everything you had into your partner. This could be rather disastrous, especially if that someone was a person who had little to no regard for you. There was a rather tragic tale a few generations ago about a cousin who loved a wastrel rogue. He took the cousin for all they were worth, and then left them behind. Broken, ruined, the cousin eventually wasted away and died under mysterious circumstances. The tale proved to be a cautionary one, and your branch of the family required a carefully arranged marriage for the Heirs.
Your Father had done that, and while he was still great friends with your mother, she was happiest in her studio and he was happiest with Asgore. The divorce was still pending, but everyone simply shrugged. They knew how it would turn out, and life goes on as usual.
Your eldest sister, Goddess bless her, was married and expecting. She somehow lucked out and fell for her marriage partner. He seems to love her as well, but your family was ever watchful. Your older brother had entered into discussions when the monsters were freed. A small laugh escapes you as you remember (B/n) coming home one day, flushed and eyes sparkling with a myriad of emotions. He'd fallen for a smol skele named Sans, an energetic little blueberry who seemed to believe your brother had hung the moon and stars.
Shifting, your rub your arms as a sharp wind chills you. It was through Sans that you eventually met everyone else. Undyne and Alphys with their shy and boastful flirtations, Napsta and his yearning to become the record selling best DJ/Musician the world would ever hear. Queen Toriel and her quiet sadness as she begins to heal the scars on her soul.
And Papyrus.
Cupping your hands around your mouth, you breathe again and rub your hands together. Papyrus had struck you to your soul on your first meeting. Much like the legends in your family, you had fallen hard and fast. Unlike your siblings, you were a bit on the cautious side, and it had taken you some time to actually ask him for a date. He'd agreed in his lazy way, and the two of you had been going out for almost a year.
But.....
Taking your phone out, you use your teeth to take off your glove. Tapping the screen, you open the messenger app and send a couple texts.
