Taehyung never complained when his parents fought. He never complained when they kept him up at night, leaving him absolutely exhausted in the morning. He never complained when he got hit in the midst of a particularly violent argument. He never complained, not once.  But it was getting too much now. He could barely keep his eyes open during the day, not even with the help of numerous large cups of coffee, not to mention the increasing numbers of scrapes and bruises he had started to accumulate.

Taehyung's parents had started fighting when he was around the age of 6. It started small at first, little bits of tense conversation, maybe a shouting match or two, but it had long progressed to more than that. Throughout the years, more often than not, the fights would only end when Taehyung attempted to step in. This earned him more than a few hits and sharp insults, but he learned to put up with it. To keep this family together, he told himself.

Needless to say, Taehyung was miserable. It was hard, growing up with parents who only seemed to care about their differences and disagreements. His parents had never paid particularly close attention to Taehyung in the first place, and as he grew up, he became more and more conserved, sticking mainly to himself, always quiet. When he was younger, many of his nights were spent quietly sobbing into his blankets, wishing with all of his might that his parents would stop fighting for once. He grew to hate the life he lived and even started to blame himself for not being able to keep his parents happy.

Taehyung had convinced himself that love was overrated, and something he should stay away from. After all, the only people in his life that had once loved each other ended up hating each other.
