Someday, it would be my turn to find true happiness. I wouldn’t be bothered by you anymore. That day would be full of laughter and fun; no room for sorrow and pain. But, I wanted to reach that day quickly. ‘Cause you are still here inside me, still the reason for my tears.
“Here. I guess you don’t have your umbrella with you.”
“Uh. Thanks. I always forget it. Sorry for causing you trouble.”
“Oh, that’s nothing. Where are you going by the way?”
“At the library. But if you are going the other way—“
“Perfect. I’m also going to borrow some books. Let’s go.”
That was the first conversation I had with him. Although I knew that he’s not really going to the library or to borrow any book, he still insisted just to make sure I’d not get wet.
I am a person who’s not fond of bringing an umbrella.
And he was the person who’s concerned if others would get wet.
“You like to read books huh?”
“Y-yes. I find them interesting.”
“Hm. I wonder what I should read. Any recommendations?”
“Oh. It depends upon you, whether what genre you are into.”
“Actually, I don’t kind’a grab a book and spend my time scribbling it. I would rather play Warcraft. Haha. Would you help me be into the reading world?”
“Sure.”
I was the bookworm type. I just love to spend my time doodling pages of books.
He tries to be a book lover even if I know he likes to play online games than be bored.
“You sure are a great company. Thanks for this day.”
“Th-that’s nothing. Thank you for getting me under your umbrella.”
“Here. Take this with you. You might catch cold if you walk in this kind of weather.”
“But how about you?”
“I take a lot of Vitamin C every day. Don’t worry about me. Goodbye. See you tomorrow!”
He told me not to get wet but he’s the one who ran under the cold rain.
I should have stopped him so he won’t get sick but all I did was to stare as his silhouette’s gone through the foggy road.
I kept wondering why my chest felt full until I went home. It seemed like it has something I am very reluctant to feel.
“At last, I saw you! I was waiting for you.”
“Why did you wait for me? Ah. Wait. Here’s your umbrella. Thank you.”
“Oh. You’re welcome. Well I forgot to ask your name yesterday.”
“I-I’m Lizzy.”
“Nice to meet you again Lizzy. I’m Jacob. Want to have a coffee? It’s just a friendly invitation if you won’t mind.”
“Okay.”
I found out that he likes to drink sweetened coffee with creamer.
I just want my coffee to be black with a little bit of sugar.
Since that day, we became friends and spent lots of our time together, especially when both of us were done with our classes.
I enjoyed being with him.
I like to stop and stare at his smile.
“Hey Lizzy! I have a good news.”
“What is it?”
“Chinna and I were together!”
“Congratulations then.”
He was inlike with Chinna for some time. I never thought he would court her and will be together with her.
That broke my heart.
But I kept it from him.
Our time together was shorter than before. I couldn’t demand anything from him now that he’s in a relationship. But I also forgot that not everything will remain the same.
“Lizzy. She broke up with me.”
It was raining at the moment he told me about it. I felt happy. I didn’t know why. But I knew I should be sympathizing with him.
“Everything will be fine. Just let out your heavy feelings and you’ll feel a lot better. You know, like how the clouds set free the rain for them to be a little lighter.”
I never left his back after his heartbreaking situation because I knew he’ll need me.
And it also never came to me that I’ll be all that he would need.
“You know, I’m very lucky to have you as a friend Liz.”
“Jacob, you don’t need to feel lucky. I’m just a normal person without any lucky charms.”
“Then how on the Earth would you explain the charms that made me fall in love with you?”
Heavy raindrops fell on the rooftop where we were sitting but I was immobilized in my position.
He told me that he fell in love with me.
Could it be true?
“Will you be the girl who’ll be with me as long as rain exists on Earth?”
“Of course, I will.”
**
“Lizzy, let’s go before the rain falls. I’ll get the car at the parking lot first, okay?”
“Yes Mom.”
Mom left and I started walking towards the exit when I bumped to someone.
“Oh. Sorry miss.”
Why does rain falls when I don’t want it to?
“Miss, are you hurt?”
And why should I see someone when I don’t want to?
“I-I’m alright.”
“She’s alright babe. Let’s go inside.”
“Wait babe, you go inside first.”
“Follow immediately, okay?”
He nodded and turned to talk to me.
“Here. I guess you don’t have your umbrella with you.”
Same thing he said when I first met him.
“Thank you, Jacob.”
“You know me?”
“Lizzy dear! Get in the car. It’s raining hard.”
I turned my back at him and said,
“I miss you so much. I still love you.”

Jacob suffered amnesia a year ago. He was driving his car on his way to their rest house at a far province when it slipped through the wet road due to a thunderstorm. He was lucky to be alive though his memories were lost. His parents decided to bring him out of the country to have him medicated. Since then, I never heard any news of him.
From that time, I always prayed that he’ll come back like the rain does after a very hot weather.
Come back to me to wash all the pain and loneliness.
And come back to make his promise come true,
Make me the girl who’ll be with him as long as rain exists on Earth.
