Andrew was sitting on the couch in the lobby of Savannah's office, waiting for her. They always have their lunch together, since their office's are just a couple of blocks apart. Andrew stood up the moment he saw Savannah stepped out of the lift, he made his way to her offering a hand. Savannah grabbed it and waved her other hand to her colleagues saying they'll just see again each other after lunch, like any other afternoon. Once outside the office, Savannah walked towards the direction of their usual downtown restaurant. But that day was different, Andrew will take Savannah to an exquisite restaurant. So Andrew stopped her and pointed at his car parked on their left side. Once inside Savannah asked Andrew where are they going. But Andrew didn't answer her question, he only said it'll be a surprise.
She was teary eyed when they reached their destination, the place holds a very special spot in her heart. He took her to the very restaurant that they've met, in an event three years ago.
"Surprise." He said, smiling.
"What's the occasion?" She asked, grinning.
"Nothing really, I just feel like eating here." He answered nonchalantly.
"Are you compensating for a misdeed?" She asked, with a raised eyebrow.
"Of course not, I'm a good boy." He answered, smiling.
The food was served. They had their lunch at peace, casted aside her inquiries. But right after the desserts was served, he told her another surprise.
"We are going on a vacation." He said, smiling.
"Vacation? Are you serious?" She asked, beaming.
"Yup, I'm dead serious. And this time we are going to travel, out of the country." He answered, smiling.
"Out of the country? Where? When? How long?" She asked excitedly.
"But, I'm not sure if Alistair will approve this, you should have told me sooner. I can't just go on short notice, you know him." She said, feeling down.
"Okay, one at a time. You heard it right, yes out of the country. Where? To Paris of course, first travel should be to Paris just like how you wanted. When? Tonight. How long? Five days. And as for Alastair, don't worry about it. I already asked his approval, so you just have to pass your leave form once you're back in the office. Lastly, I can't tell you beforehand. It'll beat the element of surprise." He said, smiling.
She was like a kid waiting for Christmas eve excited to open her presents when they left the restaurant. He dropped her at her office and reminded her about the leave form, else it'll be unofficial.
He picked her up after office and drove her home, helped her packed her bags and prepped everything up. Then went to the airport just in time to check their luggage in. Settled down on their seats and prepared for the 20 hour flight. Savannah thought she will not be able to sleep due to excitement, but after a couple of hours in the air she dozed off. On the other hand, Andrew can't sleep a wink even though he was dead tired due to the preparations he made that day.
Once in Paris, they went straight to the hotel, left their luggage, then visited the various tourist spots the city offered. Their last stop was Eiffel Tower. Savannah can't contain her happiness, she felt like nothing could make her day better. She was peering through the telescope when she heard Andrew whispered something on her ear, she didn't catch it so she turned around to face him.
"Sorry, what did you say?" She asked.
"Happy anniversary." He answered, smiling.
"So you dragged me all the way here to say that? You naughty boy." She said.
She kissed her right then and there, amongst the tourists and locals alike. They went to a fancy downtown restaurant to have dinner, then back to their hotel room to rest. He said he'll take a quick shower first because he wanted to watch a ball game, which she happily obliged. Once he's done, he told her she can take her sweet time in the shower since they still have a long night ahead. She entered the shower laughing with the idea of what might happen afterwards. The moment he heard the shower running, he hurriedly stood up and went to his bag. Opened the secret compartment and empty its contents on the floor. Scissor, adhesive tape, and glow sticks. He cut the tape in short lengths then set them aside, then he bended the sticks to glow. He then pasted them on the wall forming words he was meaning to ask her. He stuffed the bag back to the closet, then turned all the lights off and waited for her by the switches.
Savannah looked puzzled with the complete darkness when she stepped out, save for the dim light emanating from within the bathroom. Andrew turned the bathroom lights off as well, and let Savannah adjust her vision. Andrew held Savannah's hand and helped her made her way inside the room. When Savannah was facing the bed, she was shocked on what she saw. She told herself she was wrong when she thought nothing can make things any better, but this last surprise from Andrew made what happened today was nothing. She hugged him, whispered her answer again and again in between kisses. She can't stop her tears from flowing, tears of joy.
Above the headboard of their bed, glow sticks are taped on the wall. Which spelled the words "WILL YOU MARRY ME?".
