Skye Aprile

I was waiting for the guy to get his things and for some reason I felt excited yet warm inside. I was glad that someone is here to boost my confidence after Zeke had torn a load down- the whole ordeal with the waitress who I would have to see around the workplace a lot of the time, was really annoying. Anyone could tell we were on a date but it wasn't just her fault as Zeke had welcomed those looks and even returned some. I was buzzing earlier today but now I don't even want to see his face.

And, just on cue before I got angry at myself Adam comes out and gives a huge smile; relieving all of my previous worries.

'You called the cab?'He asks

'Yeah. It should be here in a minute. Your name is?'

'Cool. Oh yeah, I haven't told you yet. My name is Adam. Sorry for keeping you longer.'

I honestly didn't mind him keeping me longer because it was already making my mood so much better. 'No worries. Would save me time and hurting my feet.'

'True.' Adam chuckles. It's one of those where it resonates in your chest and lifts you up spiritually, just a pure and sincere laugh. 'So do you live alone?'

I thought I would be used to lying about this kind of thing but turns out I'm not. I don't like lying about it but I also don't like confessing the whole sob story to people, so in comparison to the other acquaintances I've told I decide to be truthful with Adam.

'Yeah. The whole parent thing is a complicated story so I'll tell you another time.'

Adam smiles, 'I used to know you.'

'Wait. Really? Are you serious?' I didn't expect this in a million years. We went to the same school, live in the same apartment complex and even work in the same place. Wow.

'You used to come to my school and once even came to my mum's bakery. I honestly was worried when I saw your mum pull you away and I wanted to do something about it but couldn't. I always wish I did run and tell someone because that was the last time you ever came to school and anyone for that matter. You and your family just fell off the face of the earth.'

I could tell he was sincere but also scared of my reaction to what he was saying and I couldn't hold anything against him cause he would've been younger than nine. The age to know that something is wrong but also the age to not know whether to act on it or not.

'Well thank you for remembering me. Especially my name, its all I have left as part of my identity from before.'

'You're welcome. I do want to know what happened but I think we will have plenty opportunities in the future to talk about stuff.' I couldn't agree more with that.

The ride home was pretty calm. We talked about Adam's work and it seemed to relieve some stress he had from constantly having to cook plates to perfection within his first week of being hired. We both remember bumping into each other when we were attending the interviews but compared to me he had more than the required skills for the job. Made me look like a laughing stock for ordering takeaway to my penthouse everyday rather than making 5 course meals that would have any food fanatic oozing with taste bud pleasure... Who knows? Maybe his cooking is really like that.

We both hopped out of the cab and I paid all the fee before he could. I obviously had way more money than him so least I could do was pay the whole fee.

'You shouldnt have done that. I could've paid for it. I'm the man here.'

'Well looks like I'm the man cause I paid before you. And its honestly no problem, I have a lot more money where that came from.'

'Well thank you. Should we head up?' I nodded in response.

Edward moves to open the door. 'Its okay Ed I can handle the door.'

'Nice one my lady.' He chuckles.

'Im confused.' I state.

'You just said a pun. Was a good one as well.' Adam had himself laughing once he realised.

Never thought I would be this.. Punny. Ha! Got Him! God, Im going downhill.

Edward holds the door open.'Seems like you both have got to know eachother after living in the same complex for a while. And you're on floors above and below. What happened to that other fellow you got in the limo with?'

'Lets just say the date didn't go smoothly. His attention was else where.' I confess with a monotone voice.

'Guessing a waitress happened to slip him her number and he didnt throw it back in her face.' Edward percieves.

'Exactly that. Guessing you know what you're talking about Eddie.'

'Had many ladies in my time and I know what can happen when you go on a date.' He smiles, 'Head on up now. Its late.'

Both of us nod and say goodnight. We hop into the same elevator and discuss how cute Edward is. Don't doubt he was a lady killer and a gentleman, he even holds doors open for people as a career at his age- now thats a real gentleman.

As the elevator nears his floor Adam looks over to me.

"Well it was really nice seeing you again Skye. I'm happy that it didn't end on the note back then and it's the best thing to see where you are now. I hope that the douche from earlier makes up for what he did cause you deserve better than someone like him, he will realise he made a mistake. You're beautiful and have an amazing voice... As I can tell cause I listen to it every night when I'm laying in bed.' He laughs at the fact he can hear me singing from the floor below.

'Once again I'm sorry but if you enjoy it that's all that matters. I'll probably head straight to bed tonight because I'm so tired from today. Thank you for keeping me company and for the ride home.' On that last word the doors open and Adam walks out.

'Right back at you. Goodnight Skye'

'Goodnight'

We both wave at each other as the doors shut on our smiling faces.
