I-I Can Hear His Heartbeat

Some minor spoilers for season 1!

Armin's POV

"I guess it finally exhausted itself..." Mikasa said.

A few of us were standing on top of a roof, looking down at the strange titan. It was laying there, steam burrowing out of it.

Suddenly, something popped out of it's nape.

"W-What is that?" I asked.

We examined it closely, waiting to get a clear view.

The steam cleared and my eyes widened at what I saw.

Eren...

"Is that?... Eren?" Mikasa asked shocked.

My heart was no longer beating, my knees were shaking, my mouth was agape, and my eyes were filling with tears.

I quickly used my ODM gear to get to Eren. Once on the ground, I started to run towards him. My heart was pounding loudly in my ears.

There's no way that's Eren... I saw him die... I saw him get eaten by that titan... there's no way that's Eren...

I reached the titan and I climbed onto it, running towards the body that looked like Eren's.

I fell to my knees once I reached him, wrapping my arms tightly around him.

My body was shaking violently, my hands desperately grasping his shirt tightly.

Tears threatened to spill out but I fought the urge to let them out.

I slowly dropped my head to his chest, listening for a heart beat.

-thump... thump-

I gasped, tears spilling out of my eyes quickly.

"I-I can hear his heartbeat..." I said quietly.

"The places you told me about... I have to see them... I have too..."

"Eren! No!"

I started to sob loudly, wrapping my arms tightly around him.

"I CAN HEAR HIS HEART BEATING! HE'S ALIVE!" I cried loudly, inching closer to him and gripping his shirt tightly.

"Eren!..." I cried.

"A-Armin..."

I gasped and pulled away, looking at Eren.

He was looking back at me...

I let out a sob. "Eren..."

He tightly wrapped his arms around my waist, letting out a few tears of his own. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders tightly, continuing to sob loudly.

"I'm so sorry, Eren! I'm so sorry I couldn't save you... I'm so useless... you died because of me... and I'm so sorry..." I sobbed.

"A-Armin... look at me..."

I slowly looked at him, keeping my hands attached to his shirt tightly.

"You're not useless..." He said, tears falling down his cheeks. "I'm alive now... that's all that matters..."

I stared into his eyes sadly, tears continuing to fall down my cheeks.

Eren reached for me.

"Eren! No!"

The titan bit down, Eren's arm falling to the ground below.

I looked down at his arm that was once gone, and grabbed it. I softly intertwined our fingers together, sobbing afterwards.

"T-This arm... was bitten off..." I sobbed. "H-How is this possible?!"

He caressed my cheek with his other hand softly. "My father... gave me the titan serum... that's how I'm still alive... I transformed inside the titan..."

My eyes widened.

"It's okay now..." He said softly.

I started to cry again, wrapping my arms tightly around him. He wrapped his arms around my waist again.

"I... I love you, Eren..." I cried out.

He let out a quiet breathy laugh. "I love you too, Armin."

I smiled and continued to cry.
