I fear this clan...The clan I was born into, without a choice of dying at birth. A clan full of killers...Murderers...HailClan. A clan in the middle of a snowy forest in the Leaf-bare and a rich, vibrant green in the Greenleaf. The camp is surrounded by large oak and maple trees with few scarce pine trees. Thorny brambles surround the camp, leaving a large gap to enter and exit the camp that leads into the rest of the territory.
My mother is a russet brown she-cat with white legs and golden yellow eyes. Her name is Amberdust. She won't say who my father is. The other kits and apprentices would laugh and say that my father is probably a kittypet or rogue whenever somecat would bring up my parents.
I am a nuisance in HailClan. I have feathery white fur, not a single marking tainted my pelt, but most cats think I'm a nuisance because of my eyes.
My eyes are blue, the color of the sky in the middle of Newleaf and early Greenleaf.
Cats with white fur are more prone to having blue eyes which becomes a problem when your an kit. Most think I can't hear them because of it.
It's not true, although their voices sound softer, duller than what I think they should sound like...I can still hear them.
Every. Single. Word.
The taunts. The threats...They tell me to get lost. To jump in MoorClan's frozen lake in the Leaf-bare. To drown. I feel like this is all not real.
A single cat being singled out from every cat in their clan. It's truly horrific and depressing.
Only two cats will talk to me like I'm normal. Like I'm not a mistake or a nuisance.
Their names are Redpaw and Maplepool.
Redpaw is a moon older than me. He's a warrior apprentice that's being mentored by a warrior named Hareclaw. Redpaw is a dull ginger tabby with a white chest and paws.
He always tried to find the time to talk to me when he isn't doing apprentice duties or training. He's truly committed to become a deputy and then leader when he's becomes a warrior...
Maplepool is HailClan's medicine cat. She's more of a mother to me than Amberdust will ever be. She's compassionate, kind, and zealous. Maplepool is a dark brown tabby with a white tail tip and chest.
Her pelt always reminds me of the trunk of an oak tree after it rains or when the snow from Leaf-bare starts to melt from the trees. She always has a few mint leaves tucked behind one of her long ears, which gives cats a calming feeling.
I smile at the thought of Maplepool. "I'll stop by to see her today for a bit." I think to myself as I stand up from one of the HailClan's nursery queens, Sprucestream.
"Where are you going, Cloudkit?" The brown tabby she-cat asks with a gentle smile. Her voice was muffled by my slightly impaired ears.
"I'm going to see Maplepool. Is that okay?" I ask meekly, my ears lowered at the thought of not seeing her today, the day where I would finally be apprenticed.
"Yes, that's fine. Just don't wonder off too far." Sprucestream answered faintly with a nod, licking one of her newly born kits gently. The kit's fur is the color of clouds before a storm arrives.
"Thank you, Sprucestream..." I quietly thanked before walking towards the medicine cat den.
"It's quite warm out today..." I thought as I glanced up at the sun filtering down through the greenleaf trees. "It's probably just me." I concluded with a sigh. My pelt was always thicker than any other cat in HailClan. It's like I was born from somewhere else...
My paws crunched in the dead leaves of the oak and maple trees of the previous Leaf-bare. The gentle smell of mint and lavender floated to my nose as I walked into the entrance of the Medicine Cat den.
The dark brown she-cat sat a little more than a rabbit-jump away from where I stood. Her amber yellow eyes lit up upon seeing me. She stood up with a grin, padded over to me, and licked my forehead gently. I let out a small giggle at the strange sensation, it felt weird yet it was comforting.
"Is this what being loved feels like?" I thought to myself, not noticing Maplepool pull away and give me a look of pride.
"What?" I asked quietly. Maplepool just shook her head with smile.
"It's just....you're becoming an apprentice today and I won't get to see you as often anymore..." Maplepool admits, her gentle voice entering my ears clearly. Maplepool was the first cat to talk to me in a way that I could hear fully.
I blink and give her a lopsided grin, "I'll still come to see you, Maplepool! Just not as often as we'd both like." I tell her sincerely. The amber eyed she-cat bowed her head in a nod, the mint leaves behind her ears ruffled a bit, leaving them slightly in disarray.
"If only you could see me before and after every session..." Maplepool dramatically said to me, her voice almost dropping out towards the end. I sigh and give her the brightest smile I could muster.
"I'm a little nervous." I confess with a flick of my tail.
"Why do you say that?" Maplepool asks with a tilt of her head. I grimace as I was about to speak, the voice of Sagestar, one of HailClan's leaders, cut me off from speaking.
"Let all cats who can seek out their enemies, gather beneath the Towering Ledge for a clan meeting!" The golden she-cat's booming voice echoed in my ears, leaving me startled for a moment.
I look up to Maplepool, who nodded. I follow her out of the den to a tall ledge that was slanted slightly upwards. I see Sagestar and Acornstar both sitting atop the stone. Their deputies, Greymist and Silverfire, sat on the two rocks on either side of the main ledge that would lead up to it.
"May Petalkit, Alderkit, Leafkit, Vinekit, and Cloudkit step forward." Acornstar, a rusty ginger tom gruff voice, also echoing in my ears just as Sagestar's did. I wince slightly before looking at Maplepool.
She smiled down at me with pride and nudged me lightly. I give the Medicine Cat a small smile before walking to stand in a line beneath the Towering Ledge.
"I hope I don't get a temperamental mentor..." I thought as see the other apprentices-to-be wriggling with excitement.
