A frail woman was crouched in a circle of flames. Surrounding her was a dense forest that smelled of pine and moss. The sound of fast paced murmurs echoed through the trees, words belonging to a long forgotten language escaping her lips at near inhuman speed. Suddenly, birds began to shriek monstrously as if being brutally killed all at once. The woman grimaced at the sound but her chanting was steady. This carried on until footsteps were heard. The flames abruptly died and the birds fell silent. A man, clad in black, approached the woman.
"Arabella?" The man called out, "What's going on here?" He approached her tentatively and crouched next to her.
The woman's blue eyes were brimming with sorrow as she stepped forward, "I'm sorry." She said before reaching behind and pulling a knife out of it's sheath. Before he had time to react, she plunged the knife into her throat and twisted it. A lone tear crawled down her cheek as she watched the life bleed from his eyes. "I love you... but this is a sacrifice I'm willing to make... a sacrifice I must make for the greater good."
