Sweet & tender

It was local band night in downtown Columbus at your favorite bar. It being your favorite bar, well..because it was the only bar you generally went to.. if you were to go to a bar. The early June weather pushed you to finally get out and to visit your brother Jason at work. Jason helped run local band night, which was something particularly cool for Columbus' budding music scene.

Your phone was buzzing, you turned your drowsy head after enough vibrations woke you halfway awake.

Jason: (y/n) where are you?
Jason: Your going to miss the band I was telling you about
Jason: If your going to bail, at least let me know!!!

Fuck, you had fallen asleep. It had been a long day, and once you got home and sat on your bed. You were lights out. Now you were late, and your brother was pissed at you. Great.

You flung up from the bed and started to scramble. Clothes flying from the closet and things falling in the bathroom. You managed to get a white short sleeve shirt on, it was kinda cropped with a few buttons undone for some very minor cleavage. You didn't like being overtly sexually dressed, and you weren't. But it was nice to not dress like a boy sometimes. Fuck it, it was summer. You threw on your high tops and headed out the door.

You were weaving through the crowded downstairs of the bar, flustered. Trying to make your way through drunk people to get upstairs to the rooftop. Upstairs was a beautiful rooftop bar that overlooked downtown Columbus, it was also where the stage was set up. You were actually pretty excited to stare at the pretty hanging lights and be in the open air.

You made it upstairs and it was packed. This was really a successful night for Jason and you were happy for him. But you were a little overwhelmed going in it alone. You spotted your brother and b-lined to him. The band he must have been talking about was still on stage, unless you had already missed it.

You: "Jason!" you called for your brother, who didn't hear you. Eyes glued to the band on stage. The band actually sounded pretty good for being local.

You: "Jason.." you said out of breath when you finally made it to your brothers shoulder, laying a hand on him.

Jason turned his head towards you.

Jason: "Nice of you to show up, sis.." he said snarky.

You: "Jase, I'm sorry.. I crashed unexpectedly after work. But I'm here... here and proud of you.."

Jason ushered his hand towards the stage, trying to talk over the loud music so you could hear.

Jason: "This is the band I was telling you about.."

You looked on stage and watched intently. There was only two guys on stage, which was odd for a "band." But they were high energy, and sounding pretty good too.

You: "So there is only two of them?" you projected to Jason.

Jason: "Yeah.. they used to be bigger but the lineup changed and they are a two man operation now..but it doesn't look like they need anyone else.."

You: "They sound really good, Jase. Like good good.." you said eyes glued to the stage.

The drummer had a charisma about him, he didn't stop moving. He had a bouncing motion and looked like he gave 100% with every motion. He had squinty eyes and wild hair. He was just overall - cool.

The other guy in the band seemed to do all sorts of things. Ukulele, piano, bass... and sing. His voice was sweet and tender, maybe one of he best voices you've ever heard. You couldn't help but stare and his face, perfectly framed with tattered brunette hair on top. He had on a crisp short sleeve button up shirt, and some tight black pants. Something about him made your heart race.

Jason broke you out of your trance.

Jason: "You want a drink, (y/n)?"

You: "Yeah, that'd be great!"

Jason exited the crowd to get you guys drinks.
