As I raced down the stairs with rachel, i could literally hear the grumbling of my stomach. Nothing would get in between food and me. I could hear Rach running after me. I hoped that Jace hadn't gotten down before and Rach and I had. If he did, then the pancakes would most likely be gone long before we could sit down and take a bite.

As we thundered into the kitchen, I spotted Rose, Ethan, Clarabelle and Rissa sitting at the table. Xavier stood at the stove camly flipping eggs in a pan. It all looked so normal. we all looked like an ordinary family. Rissa scarfing down food like her life depended on it , Rose and Ethan talking quietly, both lost their own world. Andrea was probably still sleeping, and Jace ...well i don't even know where that annoying boy went to. On the surface, it seemed so ordinary but under all that lightheartedness, was a dread that someone would lose their temper and blow up the fragile lie that we had built.

"Eve c'mon, stop daydreaming and come join us."

I looked up lost in thought and saw Rissa giving me a half exasperated, half annoyed look. her black eyes narrowed as she looked at me more carefully and sighed. Mentally slapping myself, I threw up the mental stone barriers that I learned to build in my mind. Having a mind reader in the family can get annoying sometimes when you want your own private thoughts.

I sat myself down and proceeded to grab seven pancakes. I started slathering them all over with maple syrup and butter. There is literally no better thing to put on pancakes than butter. I don't care too much for peanut butter on my pancakes. In my opinion it tastes disgusting, but for some unknown reason Rach really likes it? Like WHAT. who spreads that disgusting shit on a heavenly cake! NOBODY!

"So, how do you guys feel about back to school shopping huh? School is starting in about two weeks, and you guys definitely need to go pick up a few books right?" Rose asks, lifting her mug to her lips to take a long sip of coffee.

"Well yeah. the twins and Jace are graduating this year, so Andrea, Belle and I are going to let them pick out a few books from Target. then we'll stop at starbucks for a drink before heading home." Rissa replied her mouth still half full and her face covered in whipped cream.

Belle sighed loudly before proceeding to head on upstairs to change out of her PJs. I swear that girl cares more about her appearance more than anything.

After grabbing my coat from my room and combing my hair, I half tripped, half ran down the stairs. Once downstairs, I found Ethan giving the others a lecture about safety precautions and how we should never use our abilities outside if we could avoid it.

Upon seeing me, he looked at me with a warning look in his eyes. I was the most troublesome of my family, because I still couldn't control my emotions properly. So I had the greatest risk of exposing our family to the outside world. Internally groaning, I proceeded to mentally try to drown out his voice by thinking of rainbows, and cupcakes and shit like that.

"I don't think I need to remind you, young lady, that you have to control yourself a little moreI. I don't want a repeat of last year, where I had to wipe a whole store full of people's memories cause you couldn't control your emotions, and turned the floor of the mall into a skating rink. I'm sure I don't have to remind you of what will happen if..."

"Chill dad, im sure Evie wont do anything bad, she just lost control for a second, that time. you don't gotta be so harsh on her."

I looked up to see Andrea come down wearing a red parka, her short blond hair framing her violet eyes. She gave me a small smirk before walking past me, grabbing the keys and racing out to the car.

"I call shotgun!" Jace called after her before racing to the car. I swear that boy acts like an 8 year-old sometimes. The others began slowing filing out of the house, unwilling to listen to Dad's nagging. I sighed before turning to face dad.

"Yes dad, i promise i wont do anything dumb." I internally rolled my eyes. it wasn't as if I purposely lost my temper. I couldn't help these things, they would just happen.

As I ran out of the house and into the car, I started wondering how senior year would go. In just one month of the winter holidays, I had already frozen 20 cups of water just by accidentally touching them, covered our house with A MOUND of snow just because Jace accidentally broke my favourite snowglobe, and killed the fishes Rach keeps in her room by turning them into tiny blocks of ice. And let me tell you that girl was notttt happy. She made me do a THREE HOUR LONG memorial service to mourn the loss of her so called 'honourable' fishes. Like seriously their just freaking FISHES!!!!

All i know is, it's gonna be one hell of a year
