Aiden thoughtlessly took a tentative sip of coffee, wincing slightly when the scalding liquid hit his tongue. He paid no mind to the pain, as his thoughts were poured out into the book in his hands, his focus never wandering. The dappled sunshine hot his face softly, warming him up slightly. As he read his teeth nibbled on his lower lip and in between the flipping of pages his fingers fumbled with his black thumb ring.

People around him chatted contently, the enchanting diner full of bustling people, children and the elderly alike. He sipped more of his coffee, feeling the caffeine slowly wake him up. A white lock of hair fell into his line of sight and he gently brushed it aside and kept on reading.

He was reading a cliche tale of unrequited love, seemingly doomed to never happen but obviously would happen in the end. He usually hated these types of stories but it had been written by a beloved author so, as a devoted fan, he bought the book anyway.

He was so wrapped up in the story that he didn't notice a shout of caution tumble out of a man's mouth and echo around the small diner. But what he did notice was the window next to him smashing into a million pieces, random debris falling all around him. He hissed out a cuss word when he felt shards cut into his face, neck and arms.

He looked up to see what had caused the window to break, and found himself staring straight into the barrel of a gun. The steady hand was sheathed in a sleek leather fingerless glove and the nails were painted a glossy black.

Aiden looked at the person holding the gun, obviously male from the posture and muscles, and found that almost all their face was covered. A black bandana with an intricate pattern on it covered everything from his nose to his collar and a black hoodie was thrown over his head, casting a sharp shadow over his forehead and eyes.

A sharp yell pierced the air, snapping Aiden's focus from the figure in front of him. A man was stood on the counter with the cash register, a gun to the cashier's head and a black bag in his hand.

"Put the money in the bag or I will spray your brains onto the fucking wall!" he growled menacingly.

The terrified employee looked ready to soil himself, but he did as the criminal said. Aiden looked around the room and saw about 5 more figures clad in black threatening people with guns. Mothers shielded their children with their bodies and the men looked ready to spring to action at any opportunity.

A small flicker of movement from the man in front of him had his attention snapping back to the fact that he had a fun help to his forehead. The guy tilted his head back slightly, allowing light to hit his eyes and reflect off the turquoise coloured gems. He roamed his gaze over Aiden's face and then slowly lowered it to the rest of his body and the book lying discarded on the table. He conveyed no emotion as he returned his head to the position is was before, eyes now safely hidden from view.

A low whistle came from the guy on the counter, the bag full of money slung over his shoulder.

Almost immediately, all the men holding up guns lowered them and left the diner. Faintly, Aiden could hear police sirens approaching and he sat down with a shaky breath, unable to get those striking eyes out of his head.
