Brooklyn's eyes slowly opened to the livingroom celing. The previous night she had fallen asleep on the couch watching Heathers, and thinking about Shaw- Shelia! Yeah that's it. Brooklyn jumped up upon the realization that today was the first day of school. The girl raced up the stairs and changed before quickly brushing out her hair and throwing it in a messy bun and brushing her teeth.
Suddenly her phone went off with a notification. Upon pulling up the notification she saw a text saying
' Goodmorning'
she was puzzled for a minute before looking at the contact name 'Shawn❤❤'
Good God, her heart started to speed up a bit and a light blush spilled across her face. " Ah!" she shook her head and finished putting on her makeup before grabbing her school bag and phone. She raced out the door, almost forgetting to lock it. She stood on the sidewalk for a minute before remembering Shelia was not picking her up anymore. Her heart sank as she started to walk down the street when a familiar voice caught her attention " Hey wait up!" she turned to see Shawn racing down the sidewalk to catch up with her. Brooklyn turned and placed her hand on her hip " Hurry then!" she called playfully, and waited for the boy to catch up.
The two teens finally made it to school, albeit a bit late for Brooklyn's taste but that was only because they were talking so much. Brooklyn and Shawn had to split ways in the front of the school as there lockers were on complete opposite sides of the school, which came as a disappointment to the both of them. Brooklyn made her way through the Semi-crowded halls, and she was almost to her locker, to bad she was stopped. She was stopped by none other than Shelia, and Brooklyn's Ex-Friends. Brooklyn tried to get past the group, that mostly consisted of girls, but to no avail. She ended up getting pushed, and she braced for impact, but impact never hit. She opened her eyes to see a girl with long blonde hair holding under Brooklyn's arms to keep her from falling. Brooklyn stared, dazed for a moment before shaking her head and pushing herself up " Thank you". She girl smiled a bit " No problem! My name is June by the way" The girl, June, said. " I'm Brooklyn " Brooklyn said quietly. " I'm sorry to interrupt" A mean sounding voice made the two girls turn " But you should probably watch where you're going next time" The girls behind her laugh as Shelia pushes her way through the crowd, taking extra care to push Brooklyn hard.
It was nearing the end of school for the day, and Brooklyn was eagerly awaiting the last minutes of class. She had a small hangout planed at a new cafe in town with her new friend, June. At last the long awaited bell came. And just about every student was out the door the very same second. Brooklyn once again pushed through the crowded halls, trying to find her way to the front when she heard two familiar voices " Hey Shelia" The voice Brooklyn recognized as Shawn said " Hey Shawn~" Shelia said in a sicking sweet voice. Brooklyn had stopped it the middle of the hallway and turned toward the voices, which were by Shawn's locker, or atleast that's what Brooklyn assumed. Brooklyn tried to listen in and she knew they were talking but it was too loud to hear anything. Brooklyn walked away angry and confused.
The Waitress set down the two girls drinks as a conversation insued between the two. June poked Brooklyn's arm " Hey what's wrong?" there was silence for a minute before " Nothing" Brooklyn mumbled. " well it's obviously something, we're friends, tell me" June says, trying to sway Brooklyn to tell her. " Honestly, I'm not even sure what it is" Brooklyn sighed and sipped her Iced Coffee " If I did know I wouldn't be like this right now. "hmm, does it have to do with that girl, Shelia?" Brooklyn looked up " Kinda, she was talking to one of my guy friends and now I feel...like, this" she gestured towards herself. " Do you have a crush on this guy?" June asked a smug look crossing her face " No, no, of course not!" Brooklyn waved the idea away, there no way she liked shawn, no way, right? "
Ok ok!" June put her arms in front of her face in defense " It was just a suggestion, but you totally like him" June trued to suppress a laugh as Brooklyn's face grew red. " I do not!" Brooklyn exclaimed, hiding her face behind her hands. All of the sudden June went completely silent. Brooklyn followed June's gaze to see Shelia and Shawn walking into the cafe. Together.
Brooklyn quietly opened the front door and slipped into the house. It was 1:37 am, why was she out so late? The world may never know. Brooklyn made her way into the kitchen and saw a neon pink sticky note on the fridge, kept in place by a Purple magnet.
Hey Sweat heart,
I had to leave for a little while, I'll be back in two weeks, don't be too crazy alright?
Love,
Mom
Brooklyn smiled at the note before she opened the fridge and pulled out some leftovers to eat for dinner, and sat at the counter waiting for her food to heat up.
