Izuku, Mai, and the other duelist tensed, waiting for whatever Yuya and the other three boys would do. But it never happened. A loud shriek silenced everyone, making them all stop and look around in confusion.
Izuku looked around, and saw Aizawa and Pegasus kneeling next to Bakugo, who was on his knees, one hand on the ground, supporting him. His other hand was rubbing his ear furiously. The blonde groaned. "Crap..."
Izuku also noticed the tall brown haired duelist that Bakugo had attacked first was near Aizawa and Bakugo too. His arms were crossed. "What the hell is wrong with you, dweeb?" He sneered.
Pegasus gave the boy a piercing glare. "Watch your mouth, Kaiba." He said shortly before turning back to Bakugo.
"What happened?" Asked Kirishima, calling out to the two teachers.
"It's okay. Bakugo is just going to the nurse. He'll be fine." Aizawa stood up and said calmly.
"Is it his hearing aids?" Izuku blurted out quite loudly.
"Hearing aids?" The other students murmured, some confused and others sympathetic.
Izuku then noticed a little away from Bakugo was a small sandy coloured object. Bakugo's hearing aids were the same colour as his hair, allowing them to blend in while he wore them. You couldn't even tell that he had them.
Bakugo growled, standing up. He was still rubbing his ear. "Shut up Deku! Trying to ruin my chance of being a hero just cause I have hearing aids! I'm still better than any of these idiots!" He bent down and grabbed his hearing aid, swiftly checking to make sure it wasn't broken before marching off to the nurse.
Aizawa was taken aback by Bakugo's spiteful words. He sighed. What a handful this class will be, he thought. "Right," he addressed the two classes. "I think Pegasus and I have seen enough. You've all done quite well. We'll take you back to your home rooms now."
Many of the students grumbled and groaned. They'd been having fun, and now it was spoiled! They trudged off the sparring field and grouped back up together with the rest of their class.
I didn't mean to call out Kacchan on his disability, Izuku thought worriedly as he walked back with his class. I was just worried something bad happened to him. He really should've taken his hearing aids out for the battle, but I guess he didn't have time because he had to listen to Mr. Aizawa's instructions. I hope he'll be okay.
The class reached their home room and sat down at their desks.
"Mr. Aizawa?" Uraraka raised her hand. "Can you tell us about hearing aids and stuff? I've never been in a class with a deaf person. Do we need to act different or anything?"
One of the other girls in the class stood up. She had rich, deep purple hair and uneven bangs. "I can answer," she said. She gave a slight nod to Aizawa, who nodded back.
"I'm Kyoka Jiro," she began. "I also have hearing aids. I'm not deaf, but I am hard of hearing, which means I'm only partially deaf. My hearing has gotten worse the older I am. I started out with a 10% loss, and didn't need hearing aids until I was ten. I know sign language but I don't use it often, and it doesn't seem like Bakugo does either if he knows it too.
"Hearing losses vary, so I doubt Bakugo and I have the exact same percentage. Hearing aids do help us, but they're not cures to our deafness. I still miss out what people say to me. It helps if you talk a bit louder than normal or face us when speaking to us so we can hear better. Typing what you're saying on your phone or writing it down is also good, and it's not offensive if you do so."
Jiro was red by the time she finished, and Izuku sympathised with her. It was sometimes hard to speak about a disability, especially in front of people you didn't know and who might judge you harshly for being different.
Bakugo came into the room then, opening the door rather aggressively. The class turned to stare at him, all nineteen of them silent.
"What you lot staring at?" He barked as he went to his seat.
"Jiro was just telling us about deafness. She has hearing aids too," spoke up Iida as Jiro took the distraction as a chance to sit. "I can assure you that whatever disability you may have will not alter our perceptions of you and others who have the same hearing loss as you do."
Bakugo tched, looking annoyed. "Whatever," he muttered. He looked over at Jiro. She's like me too then?
Jiro, knowing that the information she wanted to ask Bakugo was personal and probably not wanted to be known by the whole class, began to sign to him. She asked him if he was completely deaf or hard of hearing, and how much percent deaf he was. Bakugo's red eyes were narrowed at her signs, and the rest of the class looked on in curiosity.
Seeing as Bakugo didn't seem to be in the mood to answer, Jiro began to sign her apologies, but Bakugo brought up his hands and answered her questions, adding in a threat that she better not tell anyone else and that he was only answering so she didn't bother him later about it.
But secretly, Bakugo was pleased that someone else was hard of hearing like he was. Now at least he wouldn't be the only one in the uncomfortable spotlight and all the other students wouldn't bother him about being deaf and such.
This class may not be so crappy after all, but I'll still be the best of course, he thought.
