Mom put the phone down, her hands shaking wildly and her eyes full of tears.

"What is it Mom?" Alex asked.

"Something terrible happened.." Mom said, her voice unsteady.

"What happened?" I asked.

Mom sat down at the table and looked us all in the eye.

"There's been a plane crash.."

"And? It wasn't dad's plane right?" Alexa asked.

Mom breathed heavily, "Unfortunately.. the plane your dad was in had engine failure and there was no airport nearby for it to land at so.." Mom stopped for a couple of seconds, "i-it crashed into some mountains.. and.. no one survived.."

"What!?" My siblings and I yelled at the same time.

"That's impossible! This has to be some kind of sick joke!" Alex yelled.

Tears started to form in everyone's eyes and soon we were all weeping.

-5 Days Later-

Today is Dad's funeral. I picked out the dress I was going to wear when I would meet Dad when he came back home. It was a beautiful teal dress with diamonds surrounding the bottom. Dad would have loved it. Addy is also wearing the same dress as me and Alexa is wearing a long purple dress.

No one was in the mood to eat breakfast, we were all still recovering from the horrible news we received 5 days ago, no one could sleep and we all looked like zombies.

We hopped in the car and started heading to the store to pick out flowers for Dad's funeral. The ride was silent. When we arrived at the store we immediately saw the perfect flowers for Dad. Dad loved tulips so we got him the most beautiful bouquet of tulips. The flowers were beautiful bright colors like pink, purple, red, and yellow. Red was Dad's favorite color so we made sure to get a lot of red tulips.

-At the funeral-

The funeral was very emotional, while Mom stood at the podium at the church giving a speech about Dad, Addy and I sat close together and gave eachother hugs to keep from crying too loudly.

When it was my turn to give a speech, I placed a red tulip on Dad's casket and headed to the podium and took a deep breath.

"My Dad was a brave, heroic, amazing person who risked his life to serve our country. He helped this country in many ways and my family and I are hurt by his loss. I wish I could have hugged him one more time before God gave him his fate. I know that he's in heaven and is watching over all of us. Life will be different without him, but time will heal." I wiped the tears from my eyes and went back to my seat.

"You did great" Addy told me.

"Thanks.. I really miss him" I responded.

"Me too"
