Chapter Seven: "Visiting with Spoilt Sopher."

"What would you like to do today?" Mother asked when Jonathon finally emerged from his bedroom. "It's the weekend, so no Out of School Hours Care..."

"I've got plenty of toys," Jonathon mused thoughtfully. Mother wasn't to know, but his nocturnal adventures ensured he was in no danger of getting bored.

"I thought we might go to the mall..." Natalya continued.

Teela squealed with joy. "Yes!" At twelve-going-on-thirteen his older sister loved shopping for clothes.

The phone rang and Natalya hastened to answer it. "Yes, Mrs. Harrison. Really? How terrifying! I'm so glad you found him." Mother finished her conversation and turned back to the children. "You know that cat Mrs. Harrison makes such a fuss over? Apparently he got locked in the garden shed and the old lady could not find him for almost a day."

"How awful," Teela sympathized. "Imagine if Ginger-Fluff was lost."

"I'm going over to Mrs. Harrison's place to have coffee and hear all about it." Natalya was apologetic. "Will you be alright for an hour?"

"So no mall?" Teela was stricken although she was old enough to be left home alone and also be trusted to look after her brother.

"Sorry, Teels, maybe later."

"I'm coming to Mrs. Harrison's to see if Spoilt Sopher is all right," Jonathon announced firmly.

Mother looked surprised. "Of course, if you like."

A few minutes later, Jonathon skipped happily alongside his mother, Natalya, as they walked to Mrs. Harrison's house. When Natalya rang the doorbell, and the old lady opened the door with a warm smile.

"Hello, Natalya," she greeted warmly. "Come on in. I made some freshly squeezed orange juice for Jonathon in case you decided to visit."

They followed Mrs. Harrison into her living room, where she had set out a platter of fruit. Jonathon reached eagerly for a slice of watermelon which was his favourite. He noticed Mrs. Harrison's extremely plump cat, sitting on a nearby cushion. Spoilt Sopher was lounging on the couch, seemingly uninterested in everything in the room. But Jonathon knew better.

"Can I pat him?" Jonathon asked eagerly.

"Of course, dear," Mrs. Harrison replied. "The cat loves attention."

Spoilt Sopher purred contentedly, while Jonathon cooed in delight. "He's so soft and friendly," the boy said, eyes shining with joy.

Mrs. Harrison smiled knowingly. "Spoilt Sopher has a way of making people happy. I think he has a secret bond with anyone who shows him kindness."

Jonathon nodded in agreement, treasuring the secret connection he shared with the plump cat. As they finished their tea and bid farewell to Mrs. Harrison, Jonathon promised to come back soon to visit Spoilt Sopher and share more special cuddles.
