Stranger

Days passed by without Lennae returning. Rebecca was getting really scared. She went out almost every day looking for her friend. She went on many walks and called her name. Justin followed her most days. Rebecca and Justin became closer to each other day. Rebecca turned out to have a crush on Justin.

A day came when Rebecca finally got an answer to her calls. Her calls were less and less frequent as she started giving up hope on ever finding her friend. She had been out on another walk looking for Lennae when she heard a twig snap that wasn’t caused by her or Justin, who was following her.

“Lennae? Is that you?” Rebecca called out timidly. She stepped forwards, hoping to see if it was Lennae.

Lennae stepped out of the bushes and nearly knocked over by her friend who had nearly bowled her over in her excitement. Rebecca gave her a tight hug and then stepped back. She was misty eyed. Justin smiled happily. Then, Rebecca did something unexpected and hit Lennae really hard upside the head.

“Ow!!!” Lennae exclaimed in surprise. She rubbed her head where she was hit. “I guess deserved that.”

“You bet you did!” Rebecca said. She looked like an angry mother for a moment. “How the heck could you gone off with telling me? I have been worried forever! Do you know how I felt?” Rebecca went on for a few more minute while Lennae looked at her feet in shame.

“Becca, I think she gets it,” Justin said, putting his hand on her should, trying to calm her. Rebecca turned, ready to yell at him. Besides, he used a nickname for her. Any other time she would have blushed. “She is right though. Where have you been?”

“I am sorry I didn’t tell you. They were going to send me home so I ran away. I tried to go where Red and Bird are but left because they were furious. I decided to spend time on my own and went into the woods. I lost track of time after a while which is why I didn’t come back,” Lennae explained. She was out of breath when she finished. “I am sorry.” She gave Rebecca tight hug.

“Ok, I forgive you. I am still really mad at you though,” Rebecca said, smiling.

“You can tell me all about Justin and what happened later,” Lennae whispered quietly. She elbowed Rebecca in the ribs playfully.

Justin stiffed as if he heard something. Then they all heard the twigs cracking from someone walking. They all went completely silent. Justin stepped towards the sound. The trees and bushes shook quietly as the thing came closer. Everyone held their breath.

A little head popped out of the bushes. The figure had light grey eyes and short, bleach white hair. It came out of the bushes and seemed to be no more than a foot and a half tall. It was obviously a boy. It didn’t seem human though. What human was a foot and a half tall? He looked up and smiled at them and then turned and ran into the bushes.

They heard its voice call out,”Come get me if you dare!” They heard laughing that sounded like a bell.

The three friends stood still for a moment and then their curiosity about the strange little boy took over. They followed him into the woods.
