I'm 17 years old. I get told I'm pretty wise for my age. Clearly not wise enough...

I wake up the same way every morning the same way as everyone else. After snoozing my alarm, the gradual increase in sound and vibration of my phone will force me to get up. Normally I only snooze once or twice, Mondays and Fridays usually thrice.

I reluctantly bend down to pick up my dressing gown. It's a little worrying that I "aghh" like an old man from bending over at my age. My Mum says I'm being a 'dramatic teenager'. I know she's right but I'll always come back with a "you don't understand our generation" with the most creative wording possible achieving the ultimate goal of getting under her skin. My mother and I get on pretty well, we don't spend much time together as we've both got things to do. I haven't seen my father in years and, from what mum's told me, nor do I want to.

Anyway, back to my morning routine. After equipping my gown in my 'dramatic' way, I head to the bathroom. I know you also have a weirdly specific morning routine too but it's not really something you usually make conversation with. So here's my icebreaker.

I let the tap run for a few seconds before wetting my toothbrush. Leaving it running prevents any scum from the tap head shooting onto my toothbrush whilst allowing the coldest water possible to run. I paste my brush and start brushing my teeth from the inside of the jaw to the outside. Half way through my brushing I turn on the shower. Perfectly timing my transition from tooth brushing to getting into the shower. After washing my body, I shampoo my hair before washing my face. Otherwise washing my face first then shampooing my hair would cause the dirty shampoo to run down my clean face forcing me to wash my face again.

After getting out the shower and aggressively drying off with a towel I should've washed weeks ago, I head downstairs for breakfast. Most mornings I'll have eggs and soldiers. If you don't know what that is, I no longer respect you and am kindly asking you to leave my world. I fill the kettle. I put three slices of bread in the toaster and turn on both at the same time. Whilst the water and toast is on the go, i'll place my cutting mat, large kitchen knife, butter knife and tea spoon in size order in the exact same place I do every morning. Through experience, I've learned that boiling the water and toasting the bread at the same time allows me to start boiling the eggs just before buttering the toast which takes the most part of 4 minutes. Meaning, my entire breakfast is complete in around 6 minutes and is done with maximum efficiency.

I get dressed, I check my social media and I'm out the door. I cycle my way to school which takes around 20 minutes. I like to think the fresh cool morning air wakes me up more than my morning coffee but that might just be the caffeine kicking in. I meet my friends behind the bike shed for a smoke. Cerys is short, brunette and definitely the prettiest in our group. She doesn't smoke but she likes hanging out with us. Kasey is tall, skinny and the funniest by far. She smokes like a chimney but somehow manages to never smell of it. Most of the day at college is a blur aided by music through my headphones. I'm not really bothered what I'm listening to as long as it's upbeat and jazzy. I have to say, it feels like most of my life is a blur. Maybe I don't go out enough but I barely remember things even from the day before. I often think my way of dealing with my abnormally short memory is through my oddly specific routines. I don't bother talking to mum about it as she'd probably tell me 'go out with friends' or 'it's just a teenager thing'.
