Being a small town kid, moving to Albany New York, it quite literally is a whole new world to me. I'm trying to get through to my new classes at University at Albany, when people bombard me from every direction. This is new. Normally halls back home are divided in the middle, not here. Hallways are flooding as i try and push through to my sculpting class, art major, yep. Being from West Virginia I have a deep love for art, while West Virginia is seen as rustic, I see it as more artistic. Older buildings, rustic design and famous stories, most people know Mothman, so i got asked about it a lot when I first came to this school. I've been here a few weeks, no friends yet.
As I walk into the class I'm greeted by Mr. Scralture, Skr-Ale-Ture, yep, its pretty odd, no? He's currently going on a tangent about the Statue Of Liberty. That's normal for him as I've learned. He's very passionate about his work here, our first project is coming up, we have to make a realistic sculpture, meaning that i would most likely have to go to an out of school drawing class to get better at realism sculpting. Knowing how a human looks is easy, its a matter of putting it on paper then putting into rock or clay, right now I'm only able to use clay, it's easier for a beginner like me. I have always loved art, and I knew I was better with 3-D mediums so... sculpting!
I take my seat and wait for class to begin, a loud bell rings out and students flood in only to be scolded for being late. When they weren't actually, it was Scralture's running gag, making students panic for being late, soon we all learned about it. That doesn't mean it isn't hilarious when a student comes in right as the final bell rings and thinks they are actually late. Once everyone is seated Scralture starts roll call, here we go. He gets to the end and its my turn "Josiah Hick?" he says, and then there's the snickers, yep, me the genuine hick from West Virginia, genuinely has the last name Hick.
"Here." I say loudly over the snickers, blushing a deep red when my voice breaks, I groan and place my head on my desk and let the class continue in the background.
