It all started the day after Christmas. When I was driving home from work at the police station. I had a date with one of the most beautiful women I'd ever yet to meet. She had some gorgeous brown eyes and a perfect smile. Such an amazing catch in this great blue sea of love. We were suppose to meet at a restaurant called the patriot it was a nice place run by military members for military families and civilians.
I showed up 15 minutes early and sat in my 1970s challenger. I played some calming music because my heart was beating a thousand miles a minute. I had stopped by the store and gotten roses because I didn't know what kind she would like. I was nervous as can be. I'd seen her pictures from my buddy and I couldn't stop thinking about her and then he told me she was single and all I could say was "how??" He told me he would hook me up and not even a day later here we were on a blind date. I decided to go inside and get us a table. I was good friends with the owners so they let me sit wherever I wanted. I chose a table in the back room usually meant for parties but I figured she would want to have an actual conversation uninterrupted by the crowd of people coming from work.
As I sit and wait people start to pile in to the restaurant. I'm sitting there waiting and I start to bounce my leg because I'm nervous and then I look up as the hostess approaches with a gorgeous woman behind her. I'm in complete awe at how beautiful she is. She's even more gorgeous than in her photos. I made a silent vow to myself to kill Daniel for not setting us up before now.
I stood up and smiled and she said. "Hi im Ember, but you can call me Em if you want?" She states shaking my hand.
"Uh sure Ems hows it goin? Oh by the way I got you some flowers. I didn't know what kind you liked so I went kinda old fashioned with my choice." I said handing over the roses.
I watched the blush rising on her cheeks and thought it was cute when she hid it behind the bouquet of flowers until it dissipated. She looked up at me and smiled. "Roses are beautiful but my favorite flowers are tulips and Lily's. Sadly both are out of season." She said walking to her chair and slipping off her jacket.
I walk over and move to pull her chair out as she sits down. "That's good to know. I'll remember that next time." I say with a smile. "So what do you do?" I watched her face light up in excitement and curiosity.
She said "Oh, so there will be a next time?" She said with a smirk. I could feel the tips of my ears turn a little pink. "I am currently a registered nurse but I graduate with my doctoral in May. Daniel mentioned your a cop?" She said then took a sip of water.
"Impressive and sorta. I'm a military cop. Im currently a Sergent in the marine corps. Most of my days are spent responding to stuff that happens on base. What about you busy days?"
She laughed out loud and it was like music to my ears. "There's such a thing as regular days? Or the ever absent slow day? No I'm a trauma nurse, and I floor hop when I pick up shifts I can have anywheres from 5 to 15 or 20 patients at a time. I don't know anything other than busy days. What about you there can't be that many calls your have to respond to I mean your on a base?" She said whilst glancing at the menu.
"You wouldn't believe the amount of domestic disputes we have. Or how many dui's we have." The waitress comes by to get our orders and I get a cheeseburger with jalapeños and a side of hot sauce.
She looked up at the waitress. "Can I get the chicken strips please with fries and ranch as the dressing. Thanks Monica."
"No problem Em enjoooy your date." She says with a wink and a smirk. I shake my head and laugh.
"Does domestic abuse occur often? You would think that all service members are model citizens?" She asked taking another sip and checking me out.
"Not domestic abuse. Just fights couples have. Usually about deployments or orders to somewhere. And yeah you would think they were until you see the everyday stuff we go through. The big guy upstairs doesn't always help us out." I see you eyeing me and I smile knowing you like what you see.
