Happily- One Direction
Beep, beep, beep.
"Mmm" I groan quietly into my soft pillow. I slowly turn my head to glance at my clock. Six-thirty a.m. are read in bold red digits.
I automatically slam my fist on the top button. I roll out of bed and shuffle over to my bathroom. I take a quick shower, do my hair, dress in simple skinny jeans and a long sleeved shirt, before staggering down the stairs to breakfast.
I grab a banana and a water, my coat and make my way to the door. I immediately find a familiar small note on the coffee table scrawled in my fathers handwriting.
Clara,
I am so sorry I could not stay to see you this morning but you know how my work schedule is. I will see you tonight.
-Dad
I let out a heavy sigh and sadly stare at the note, this is nothing out of the ordinary, yet I still have trouble accepting it everyday. I barely see my own dad anymore now that my mom is gone.
She died in a freak accident nine years ago when I was ten.
I was so broken when my dad told me. I felt like my heart was being stabbed by a steel knife over and over. I cried for days, my eyes red and swollen when I would wake up.
My mother was there for me when no one else was, she was my shoulder to cry on. She taught me how to do laundry and cook and sew; these are all small simple things that everybody learns but they are special to me because she was the one that showed me.
"You only have one shot at life Clara use it wisely." She kneels down to me and gives me a warm hug and kisses my head.
I hug her back tightly and inhale the familiar scent of cinnamon in her hair.
I pull back and stare into her bright blue eyes. "I love you mommy!" I giggle. "I love you too sweetheart." she presses a light kiss on my nose.
I smile back at the memory that seems so long ago. I then realize the wet tears that are sliding down my cheeks. I quickly wipe them away and step out the door into the chilly winter air.

I trudge and meet up with my friends at our normal rendezvous spot. Beneath a giant oak tree.
They all have their hands stuffed into their pockets and are heavily dressed.
"Come on Clara, how can you not be cold." Rose playfully whines through chattering teeth. Her caramel hair whips around in the bitter wind.
I glance down at my attire and notice how lightly dressed I am compared to them.
I chuckle lightly,"I don't know, I guess I just have a knack for cold weather."
"Let's get going."
"You don't have to tell me twice." Michelle starts walking quickly.
As we enter the enchanting forest I inhale the cold crisp air. A faint smile paints my lips as I gaze at the beautiful scene before me. I have come to deeply love the bright color of leaves that blanket the hard ground like a thick carpet. The towering trees sway and creak as the wind whistles through them. The icy air sends a rush of adrenaline through my veins whenever I take a deep breath. The clear blue sky above me carries white wispy clouds that drift freely. Sparrows and robins flit in between trees singing sweet melodies that carry through the silent forest. Our feet crunch down upon the vividly colored floor as we stroll among the natural beauty.
Since Violet and I are the slow ones we walk together behind Rose, Michelle and Eve.
This is our normal routine to escape the hell we live in. We hike through the woods together and talk and get fresh air. Since it's mid October the airs gotten a bit chilly but it feels refreshing.
