I sat in the back of the taxi cab, my hands shaking slightly. I was so nervous to be coming back home. The cab driver turned the corner, on the familiar street that I used to live on. My foot started tapping on the floor of the taxi cab and I tapped my fingers on my lap, humming along to Hot Chelle Rae's 'Tonight Tonight' that was currently playing quietly on the radio.

The cab came to a stop and I craned my neck to look out the window. My eyes landed on my house and a wide smile spread across my face. I quickly opened the door and hopped out. The driver got my bags out of the trunk and I handed him a fifty dollar bill. I ran up the steps and knocked loudly on the front door. Then, I realized this was my house and opened the door.

Nothing.

I walked down the hall to the living room, and oh surprise, surprise. There was none other than my snobby step mom and stepbrother lounging on the couch watching TV.

"I'M HOME!" I threw my hands up in the air. They both turned around and smiled slightly.

"Hey, Mar." my stepbrother, Alex said.

"I've been in Miami for two years and all I get is a 'hey, mar'?" I put my hands on my hips.

He got up from the couch and wrapped his arms around my waist burying his head in my hair.

"I missed you, Marley." he kissed my forehead and smiled down at me.

"MAR!" I heard my dad yell and I spun around to find my dad standing in the entryway of the living room.

"DAD!" i squealed and ran towards him, leaping into his arms. He spun me around and kissed my cheek.

"Hey, Mar. I missed you so much." he said.

"I missed you too, daddy." I whispered, beginning to cry.

There was a knock at the door before dad could reply.

"Got it!" Alex called and ran out of the room.

"Hey, Marley." my step mom said cheerfully. She was okay most of the time but she had her annoying, snobby moments.

"Hi Tracey!" I smiled hugging her too.

I heard voices and moments later Alex came back in with his girlfriend, Sierra, and Carter following behind.

Uh oh..

Carter.

When his eyes landed on me, his body stiffened and his jaw clenched.

"Mar!!" Sierra squealed running towards me. She roughly pulled me towards her, and hugged me a bit too tightly.

"Hey Sierra." I chuckled, when she finally let me go.

She and Alex then went into the kitchen and I stood there awkwardly, and so did Carter.

"Hey Carter." my dad said, oblivious to the tension.

"Hey, James." he smiled. I always liked the fact that Carter called my dad James.

My dad left to the backyard with my dog, Penny, and Tracey sat back on the couch.

I realized my suitcases were still sitting in the entrance, so I made my way over to them, past Carter, being careful to leave as much space between us as I could. I picked up my bags nearly falling over from their weight.

I lugged the bags to the stairs and dropped them.

"I GIVE UP!" i shouted.

"I'll get 'em." Carter said suddenly standing beside me. He picked my bags up with ease and carried them up the stairs as if they weighed nothing.

I slowly followed him up the stairs and into my old bedroom.

"Thanks" I said when he set them down.

He simply nodded and left.

"This is gonna be great." I groaned leaping onto my bed, ready for some sleep.
